Highly Anticipated Tobermory 21-Year-Old and Ledaig 18-Year-Old Whiskies Now Available to American Whisky Enthusiasts

Isle of Mull, Scotland (October 24, 2024) –  Tobermory Distillery, one of Scotland’s oldest distilleries located on the idyllic Isle of Mull, is proud to announce the release of two award-winning aged single malts: Tobermory 21 Year Old and Ledaig 18 Year Old to the United States. With each bottle offering a unique taste of the Isle of Mull’s rich whisky-making heritage, these expressions represent a masterful balance of time, craftsmanship, and local tradition.

Both the Tobermory 21-Year-Old and Ledaig 18-Year-Old whiskies offer a journey through the unique character of the Isle of Mull, where every drop reflects the distillery’s dedication to time-honored traditions and innovative maturation processes. Half of the year Tobermory Distillery crafts unpeated Tobermory and the other half they produce peated Ledaig whisky in its Hebridean distillery.  These releases represent a milestone for Tobermory Distillery, showcasing its expertise in both unpeated and peated single malts.

"Our Tobermory 21-Year-Old is a true reflection of the artistry behind our whisky-making. The long maturation in American oak, followed by the sherry finish, allows the spirit to develop a harmony of flavors that’s both bold and refined," said Juliann Fernandez, master blender at Tobermory Distillery. "It’s a whisky that captures the essence of the Island of Mull—natural, complex, and full of character— and one we are excited American whisky enthusiasts will soon be able to enjoy."

Tobermory 21-Year-Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky

(46.3% ALC/VOL, 92.6 Proof, 700 ML) - MSRP $280.99

The newest member of the distillery’s unpeated Tobermory whisky core range, this 21-year-old whisky has been finished in Oloroso sherry casks, with notes of cherry wood, brown sugar and caramelized pineapples. This expression was produced in small batches and distilled into whisky refill cask in 1999, before being transferred into Oloroso sherry casks in 2015.  The result is a beautifully sweet and vibrant dram.  Like all of Tobermory’s whiskies, this is a non-chill filtered and natural color, with an ABV of 46.3%, mirroring Tobermory’s other core range expressions. Available in limited quantities in the U.S., Tobermory 21 is available at select retailers nationwide and on ReserveBar.com.

Tasting Notes: Color: Deep Gold

Nose: Marzipan, hazelnuts, toffee and treacle.

Palate: Cherry wood, brown sugar, caramelized pineapples and sticky toffee

Finish: Fresh, light and sweet

"The Ledaig 18-Year-Old is a whisky that celebrates our peat-fired heritage," added Fernandez. "We’ve allowed the peat smoke to develop into something truly special over 18 years, enhancing it with a sherry cask finish to create a rich, smoky whisky that stands out in the world of peated malts."

Ledaig 18-Year-Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky

(46.3% ALC/VOL, 92.6 Proof, 700 ML) - MSRP $176.99

Produced at Tobermory’s Hebridean Distillery for 6 months of the year, Ledaig, pronounced 'Letch-ick', is a smoky single malt. Heavily-peated (30 – 40ppm phenol), robust, and with sweet smoke and earthy notes. This award-winning whisky was first matured for 16 years in ex-bourbon casks before being finished for two years in the finest sherry casks, giving the whisky delicious sweet, and fruity notes. This non-chill filtered and natural color whisky was bottled at 46.3% ABV and is part of the Ledaig (peated whisky) core range.  Awarded The Whisky Exchange 'Whisky of the Year' for 2023, Ledaig 18 is a smoky island whisky that balances sweet and floral aromas with the richness and warmth of sea salt and smoke. Available in limited quantities in the U.S., Ledaig 18 is available at select retailers nationwide and for presale this month on ReserveBar.com.

Color: Copper Gold

Nose: Rich, fruity sherried smokiness, lovely balance of phenols, seaweed and light creosote, dried chilli flakes, spicy black pepper with hints of sweet oakiness.

Palate: Powerful rich, sherried, herbal smoky flavors, orange peel, coffee, a touch of sea salt, tobacco and white pepper.

Finish: Smoke, with a hint of licorice and sea spray.
