Savoia Vino Aperitivo Launches New Orancio Expression In The USA

NEW YORK, NEW YORK – [December 3, 2024] Today, SAVOIA launches its newest expression – Orancio, a vino aperitivo inspired by Italy's noble and adventurous spirit, Marco Polo, recalling his memory and travels in the East through the ‘Silk Road.’ 

SAVOIA Orancio is a new ‘amber’ variant of the brand’s authentic and vegan aperitif wine, SAVOIA. Just like ITALICUS Rosolio di Bergamotto and SAVOIA Americano Rosso, SAVOIA Orancio is born from the talent of Giuseppe Gallo, an international expert in mixology and brand innovator. 

"SAVOIA Orancio pays tribute to the extraordinary Italian wine heritage,” says Giuseppe Gallo. “Our latest offering finds its roots in the cradle of viticulture with an authentic orange wine. Its flavor brings forth the spices from the east and citrus from the west, which is revived in every sip.”

Giuseppe was inspired to create Orancio from an ancient winemaking practice that dates back over 8,000 years: the creation of orange wines in terracotta amphorae, originating in Caucasian Asia. Unlike white wines, where the skins are removed after crushing, in orange wines the skins are left to macerate in the must for an extended period. The long maceration gives life to a fuller and more persistent orange wine. The prolonged contact with the skins results in a flavorful aromatic profile and the unique orange hue of the wine.

SAVOIA Orancio transports the senses with its aromatic citrus and exotic notes, evoking the flavors of the East, where Marco Polo explored during his 13th-century journey through Asia. With a low alcohol content, SAVOIA Orancio encapsulates the intrepid spirit of the Venetian merchant and his journey along the ‘Silk Road.’ From Italy to Persia, the Indies and ultimately China, SAVOIA Orancio transports us into the glorious past of those adventurers who, among many things, brought back spicy aromas and distant flavors.

The taste of this vino aperitivo is a combination of citrus and fruit flavors, harmoniously infused with spices reminiscent of the Silk Road, including ginger, saffron and pomegranate. The fragrant and complex notes of orange wine enrich the citrus and spice profile, offering a refreshing aftertaste. Additionally, a citrus note of bitter orange, lime and bergamot balance these flavors. The oriental aromatic herbs such as cape aloe, gentian and rhubarb create an incredibly exotic, fragrant, rich and warm mix that unfolds in the glass.

This year, SAVOIA Orancio has garnered numerous accolades including a Gold Medal at the World Vermouth Awards 2024, Best Design & Packaging Award at The Drinks Business Awards 2024, Master at The Liqueur & Speciality Spirits Masters 2024, awarded in the Low & No category for its superior taste and quality, a Gold Medal at The Liqueur & Speciality Spirits Masters 2024: awarded in the Vermouth category for its superior taste and quality, a Gold Medal (92 Points) at the London Spirits Competition 2024 and a Platinum Medal for Best Alcoholic Beverage at the Plant-Based Excellence Awards 2024.

To enjoy SAVOIA Orancio, simply serve it cold over ice or mix it with soda or tonic water for a refreshing aperitif cocktail. For an ideal pairing, create a perfectly crafted Rose Spritz, Orancio Margarita, or Negroni (see recipes here).

Starting in January 2025, SAVOIA Orancio will be sold in 500ml bottles at 17.2% ABV and available at select retailers, including the Eataly Food Mall in NYC, California, Texas and more, and nationwide online through Curiada for $24.99.

ABOUT SAVOIA AMERICANO ROSSO

SAVOIA is a vino aperitivo created by the beverage industry innovator Giuseppe Gallo. Made with a blend of over 20 botanicals in a historic Turin distillery, it displays a bold, typically amaro-dolce aromatic profile, providing a perfect point of contact between red bitters and sweet vermouths for a range of classic Italian cocktails. SAVOIA Americano Rosso is the only vegan-friendly red bitter  – its color does not originate from cochineal, but from ingredients of vegetable origin (red potato and beta-carotene). It has a low alcohol content and is low in sugar, making it a great option for the conscious consumer. It has an 18.6% ABV in honor of the unification of Italy in 1861.

Giuseppe Gallo is one of the world’s most respected bartenders and drinks-industry innovators, with an unrivaled passion for the drinks business and an inimitable source of knowledge and insight into the world of aperitivo. Hailing from the Amalfi Coast, his passion for mixology stems from his strong Italian heritage. Giuseppe is widely considered a vermouth expert and he has spent over 15 years traveling the world and educating consumers and professionals on the category. This work has culminated in winning ‘International Ambassador of the Year’ at the prestigious awards in the drinks industry, Tales Of The Cocktail’s Spirited Awards in 2014.
