The House of Angostura Embarks on North America’s Search for the Ultimate Swizzle in the Angostura Global Cocktail Challenge

Bartenders Compete for Global Recognition, $10,000 Grand Prize, and the Chance to Become Angostura’s Next Brand Ambassador

Port of Spain, Trinidad –The House of Angostura®, renowned for its iconic bitters and award-winning premium aged rums, is excited to announce the Angostura Global Cocktail Challenge kicks off the North American Regional Finals this month. This prestigious competition is on the hunt for the world’s most talented bartenders to showcase their skills, creativity, and passion for mixology, all through the lens of the classic Swizzle cocktail.

Angostura invites bartenders to look back on the past 200 years of Angostura’s cocktail history and dream forward, creating a Swizzle that defines the future. From its early beginnings to its iconic status today, Angostura continues to lead the way in mixology innovation. 

In 2024, during the brand’s bicentenary celebration, full-time professional bartenders were invited to submit their unique twist on a classic Swizzle cocktail, sharing their vision of creating a “modern classic.” Beginning this month, winners from the 2024 online submissions will compete in the Regional Finals, held in San Francisco (January 19), Toronto (January 27), and New York City (February 3). Three Regional Champions will represent North America at the Global Finals in Trinidad & Tobago in May 2025, where they will compete for the $10,000 grand prize and the chance to become Angostura’s next Global Brand Ambassador, representing the brand on a world stage and helping to shape the future of cocktails.

“The Angostura Global Cocktail Challenge is a celebration of innovation and craftsmanship in the world of mixology,” said Raymond Edwards, Chief Brand Educator at the House of Angostura. “This competition not only honors our rich heritage but inspires bartenders worldwide to push boundaries and create future classics that embody the spirit of Angostura.”

In addition to gaining extensive knowledge of Angostura bitters, rums, and amaro, participants of the Angostura Global Cocktail Challenge will connect with a network of industry professionals, and develop essential skills needed for brand ambassadorship. The scoring system rewards bartenders who demonstrate determination, charm, and a comprehensive understanding of Angostura® products, including its bitters, rums, and amaro, as well as a broad knowledge of the wider categories of bitters, rum, amaro, and the world of cocktails and bartending.
