Open Water and World Surf League Partner to Make Waves by Eliminating Plastic Bottled Water Across Major North American Events

LOS ANGELES, Calif.—Open Water, the canned water company on a mission to eliminate single-use plastic bottles, has joined as the Official Water of the World Surf League in North America.

“When we think about partners who align with what we believe in and care about, World Surf League is such a natural fit. Ocean conservation has been a focus for Open Water from the very beginning, so joining forces with WSL to eliminate plastic bottles at their North American events and help keep beaches and oceans plastic-bottle free is really a dream come true,” said Jess Page, Co-Founder and Chief Brand Officer of Open Water.

With the first ever aluminum bottled water, Open Water pioneered the canned water category and offers a lineup of still and sparkling water in infinitely recyclable aluminum bottles and cans. Open Water has eliminated the need for over 100 million plastic bottles and dedicates 1% of sales to ocean conservation projects.

The World Surf League (WSL), the global home of competitive surfing, kicks off its North American season with the Lexus Pipe Pro held at Oahu’s famed Banzai Pipeline from January 27–February 8th. The partnership picks back up in the summer for Trestles Pro in San Clemente, CA  and the U.S. Open of Surfing in Huntington Beach. Altogether, the events attract over 500,000 attendees and millions more through worldwide broadcasts.

Open Water will be the exclusive water across these major events both in concessions as well as for VIP and athletes, eliminating the need for tens of thousands of plastic bottles.
