(June 27, 2025 – Napa, CA) — Dalla Terra Winery Direct is excited to announce the U.S. debut of Misto Mare (SRP: $19.99), an innovative new bottling from the benchmark Alto Adige winery Alois Lageder. More than just a wine, Misto Mare reflects the essence of transition itself—a compelling expression of vineyards in the process of converting to organic and biodynamic certification. Misto Mare is now available at select restaurants, wine shops and online retailers in the U.S. through Dalla Terra’s distribution network.
A Gateway to Organic and Biodynamic Viticulture
An ever-evolving, large-scale field blend, Misto Mare combines fruit from a wide range of vineyards that span multiple altitudes, soil types and microclimates across Alto Adige. The 2024 vintage is a blend of 14 grape varieties, both red and white, vinified as a white wine. The final wine is layered, complex and balanced, with aromas of white flowers and lemon zest, bright citrus and savory umami flavors, and a crunchy minerality that defines the great white wines of the region.
The name Misto Mare nods to Alto Adige’s prehistoric past, when the region was submerged beneath a vast ocean (Mare). "Misto," meaning mixed, reflects the wine’s blending of varieties and vineyard sites. The label, designed by acclaimed Finnish artist Klaus Haapaniemi and gracing an ultra-lightweight (420g) bottle, depicts the fluid transition between three worlds: the cosmic, the terrestrial, and the oceanic.
“With Misto Mare, Alois Lageder is pushing boundaries and offering a new expression of Alto Adige—it’s a new wine for a new generation of forward-thinking consumers,” said Scott Ades, President of Dalla Terra Winery Direct.
A New Value System and Sustainable Path Forward
In 2024, Alois Lageder reached a major sustainability milestone: all 136 acres of estate vineyards and 210 acres farmed by their 60 grower partners are now cultivated organically or biodynamically, completing a journey that began in 2004. Central to that mission is The Value System, a new framework that assesses and rewards growers not just for fruit quality, but for sustainable practices across five pillars: soil, plants, animals, humans and the market. Through self-assessments and annual audits, growers receive guidance and pricing incentives aligned with their values.
Misto Mare is one consumer-relevant manifestation of The Value System. A scalable model for sustainable viticulture, it creates demand for fruit from transitional plots, helping to de-risk the conversion process while offering economic incentives to growers while they work to take their farming to the next level.
“It’s about building long-term relationships based on trust, shared values, and more complete, holistic understanding of what sustainability truly means—not just in the vineyard, but in the community,” says Alois Clemens Lageder, managing director of the estate.
About Dalla Terra Winery Direct
Founded in 1990, Dalla Terra Winery Direct® is a direct importer and national agent of a select group of leading, family-owned, estate wineries and distilleries in Italy. The name Dalla Terra means “Of the Earth” in Italian and represents a commitment to work alongside estates that have achieved reputations for top quality production in their respective regions or appellations. The wines and spirits they produce are authentic, indigenous and characterful, while embracing progressive viticulture and winemaking. Dalla Terra's ability to adapt to an ever-changing marketplace is due to its highly curated portfolio and innovative business model. By limiting its portfolio, and partnering with only the highest quality producers, Dalla Terra ensures that its portfolio will be an unparalleled source of remarkable Italian wines and spirits. The quality of the portfolio is complemented by Dalla Terra Winery Direct's business model which guarantees value by circumventing the traditional national importer expense of the three-tier system and enables their distributor partners to buy directly from each producer. This results in a competitive price advantage and greater value to the consumer for some of the most iconic and significant producers in Italian wine.
