SONOMA COUNTY, CA (July 29, 2025) – Traditional Medicinals®, the leading botanical wellness company and makers of iconic herbal teas including Throat Coat® and Smooth Move®, today announced the groundbreaking of its new $47 million, 125,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in Franklin County, VA. The milestone investment underscores the company's remarkable growth trajectory as it celebrates its 50th anniversary, with the new facility designed to complement and enhance capacity alongside Traditional Medicinals' established Sebastopol manufacturing operations.

The strategic expansion comes as Traditional Medicinals experiences unprecedented demand, with 23 cups of their tea consumed globally every second and 782 million tea bags sold in 2024. The Virginia facility, slated to commence operations in summer 2026 and reach full production by winter 2026, will work in tandem with the company's Sebastopol facility to serve distinct geographic markets and optimize distribution efficiency across North America.

“This expansion represents the natural evolution of our 50-year growth story rooted right here in Northern California,” said Joe Stanziano, CEO of Traditional Medicinals. “While we're adding manufacturing capacity on the East Coast, our heart, soul, and innovation center remain firmly planted in Sebastopol. This dual-facility approach allows us to scale our mission of bringing the healing power of plants to more people while maintaining the quality and ethical sourcing standards that define our brand.”

Traditional Medicinals' decision to implement dual manufacturing operations reinforces the company's deep connection to Northern California's wellness and sustainability culture while increasing efficiency for East Coast distribution. The Sebastopol facility, which has served as the company's manufacturing backbone for decades, will continue to operate at full capacity, with both locations working synergistically to meet growing consumer demand for plant-based wellness products. The new Virginia facility will produce Traditional Medicinals’ more than 60 herbal teas, and access to the Port of Virginia will enable the company to continue its ethical sourcing relationships with herb suppliers across 35+ countries while optimizing distribution efficiency.

“For fifty years, Traditional Medicinals has educated and advocated for plant-based wellness and the importance of ethical and responsible business practices,” said Drake Sadler, Traditional Medicinals' co-founder. “We are grateful for the generous welcome we’ve received in Virginia, and it is our intention to elevate the same values-driven approach in Virginia that has defined our purpose focused company for five decades.”

The company's growth strategy aligns with broader industry trends showing increased consumer demand for natural wellness products, with the herbal tea market projected to continue robust expansion through the next decade. Traditional Medicinals' strategic approach to expansion positions the company to capture this growth while maintaining the quality and ethical standards that have made it a trusted leader in botanical wellness.
