In 2021, at the launch of its "In the Name of Mother Nature" project, Maison Telmont committed to initiate in 2025 the export to the North American market via wind-powered maritime transport. Today, after having completely ceased air freight in favor of traditional sea freight, Telmont is taking a major step forward in partnership with Nantes-based shipping company Neoline.
On October 16th, 2025, Neoliner Origin, a 5,300-ton roll-on/roll-off sailing cargo ship, will embark on its maiden Atlantic crossing, linking Saint-Nazaire to Baltimore with 11,088 Telmont bottles on board. This strategic partnership with Neoline, which cuts CO2 emissions per voyage by 80% compared to a traditional ship of the same size, is part of the House's ambition to reach Net Zero by 2050.
On October 13th, the vessel's christening ceremony marked the official launch of crossings to the United States, highlighted by the breaking of a Telmont Balthazar (12 liters) of champagne against the ship's hull. A symbol of the partnership between two visionary companies, united by the same ambition: decarbonizing commercial activities to respect the planet.
"Neoline is a game-changer in transport. With this long-awaited partnership, of which we are immensely proud, Telmont remains true to its pioneering spirit. We are taking every step in our champagne production process, from vine to glass, including transport, more virtuous. And step by step, we are moving closer to our goal of being Net Zero. In the Name of Mother Nature… and of the Sea!" – Ludovic du Plessis, President of Maison Telmont
"Until now, wind-powered maritime transport could only carry modest volumes. Neoline changes everything: entire containers can now be transported under sail, offering a concrete and scalable alternative to heavy-fuel-powered cargo ships. We are delighted to accompany such a visionary House as Telmont, whose ecological commitment resonates with our own. Together, we are demonstrating that a new model is already underway." – Jean Zanuttini, President of Neoline
About Maison Telmont
Champagne Telmont was founded in 1912 in Damery, France, near Épernay, in the wake of the Champagne riots, by Henri Lhôpital. For over a century, the House has been a pioneer in the Champagne industry. Equally committed to innovation and the preservation of Champagne's traditions of excellence, Telmont is now at the forefront of a new revolution in our relationship with our planet. It implements a unique vision: to produce exceptional Champagne without any compromise on sustainability.
This vision, materialized since 2021 with the project "In the Name of Mother Nature", includes converting 100% of the estate's and partner winegrowers' vineyards to organic farming, eliminating gift boxes and unnecessary packaging, the co-development with their historic glassmaking partner of the world's lightest Champagne bottle (800g), the discontinuation of transparent glass and bespoke bottles (900g +), the use of transition glass produced between two hues, the complete stop of air freight, and the use of renewable energy.
Standing with Telmont are investors who share the same environmental vision and convictions, including Rémy Cointreau, majority shareholder of Telmont, which fully endorses the House's commitment to sustainability and innovation; Leonardo DiCaprio, investor and committed environmentalist; and Ludovic du Plessis, President of Maison Telmont.
The wines of the House are distinguished by an airy and structured style, balancing tension and freshness, with subtle, balanced acidity that ensures an impressive long finish. Each has a unique presence marked by a paradox: structured body and remarkable lightness.
In 2024, Maison Telmont unveiled its manifesto-cuvée, "Réserve de la Terre", crafted from 100% organic grapes, without herbicides, synthetic pesticides, synthetic fungicides, or synthetic fertilizers. Radiant, luminous, and full of life, this cuvée represents the future of Maison Telmont.
