Everett, WA. James Bay Distillers announced today the relaunch of their distinctive 90-point gold-medal award-winning Berry & Ube Gin. "This is the first and only gin in the world to use Pacific island ube," said Ernest Troth, president of the distillery.
"Berry & Ube gin features British blueberries known as bilberries, saskatoon-berries from Canada, honey-berries from Minnesota, black currants and wild-harvested Oregon grape. The very-berry gin opens with luscious complex berry notes on the nose and first taste, followed by the satisfying pistachio and vanilla notes of ube at the finish," added Troth. The gin is a translucent dark ruby- or garnet-gem colored gin, which the company bottles at 80 proof, 40% alc./vol.
Serving suggestions: Taking suggestions from Seattle's Ivar's Restaurant in Mukilteo, the company recommends 2 oz. Berry & Ube gin over ice, with an added ounce of Cointreau and lime juice, topped with club soda. Intended to be a "sipping gin" or "after-dinner gin" served over ice, this also makes a fantastic martini, or gin smash using a splash of blueberry syrup topped with soda.
The gin is available at the distillery at the south end of Paine Field in Everett, online at the company's website (shipping to Washington State and Washington, DC). Customers in other states can also purchase from the company website using the "Shop Now" tab which provides nationwide shipping.
James Bay's Berry & Ube gin is one of six gins that the company produces. Other gins include "Seattle Dry Gin," a coriander-forward gin developed for a chef in Seattle; James Bay Navy Gin, which features elderflower, vanilla and lemon; James Bay Pomegranate Gin with organic pomegranate, "Summer Gin No. 5," which boasts five citrus: orange blossom, mandarin, tangerine, kumquat and orange zest, and "Gintrigue Gin," a gintriguing barrel-aged gin finished in ex-Martel cognac casks.
