Since its founding in 2020, Rupee has been a mission-centric beer company on a quest to reimagine how the world enjoys beer alongside bold global flavors. After recently launching in the Pacific Northwest beginning with Washington state, Rupee is excited to announce its expansion into Oregon—bringing distribution to 22 states nationwide.

About the Founders
Brothers Van & Sumit Sharma, sons of Indian restaurateurs with over half a century in the restaurant trade, grew up immersed in the flavors of Indian cuisine. After their family immigrated to Maine from Europe, the brothers noticed the lack of reliable distribution of Indian beer in the state—often cited as the least diverse in America.
Following years living in London and Australia, the brothers returned home to Portland, Maine during the pandemic. Inspired by their upbringing and frustrated by limited beer options that truly paired with Indian food, they set out to create a fresher, locally crafted, Indian-inspired beer designed specifically for spicy and global dishes.
Partnering with Alan Pugsley—a British expat in Maine and longtime lover of Indian cuisine—the Sharma brothers built Rupee Beer to help educate American consumers on pairing beer thoughtfully with Indian and global flavors.
