ATCHISON, Kan. — MGP, a leading supplier of premium distilled spirits and specialty wheat proteins and starches, today announced that its Atchison, Kan., distillery has completed yet another excellent British Retail Consortium (BRC) audit, achieving a Grade AA with zero non-conformances.
The recently conducted audit was the fifth for the distillery, which has earned the BRC’s top rating each time. Per the BRC standard, a Grade AA is awarded if five or fewer non-conformances are cited out of 256 total audit items.
Audits conducted at separate times in 2017 resulted in the company’s Lawrenceburg, Ind., distillery, as well as both its Atchison distillery and Atchison protein and starch facility, receiving a Grade AA.
“Achieving the BRC’s highest audit rating across all of our operations demonstrates MGP’s company-wide commitment and dedication to food and beverage quality,” said David Whitmer, corporate director of quality and alcohol R&D and innovation. “All of our employees can certainly be proud of these accomplishments.”
The BRC food and beverage safety audit is an approved standard under the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI). The GFSI benchmarks food and beverage safety standards for third-party audits that can be conducted and recognized worldwide.
“BRC certification provides assurance and confidence to customers that our company is committed to food and beverage safety for consumers around the world,” Whitmer said. “The repeated great BRC audit scores reflect MGP’s dedication to continuous improvement and strong adherence to high quality specifications and guidelines.”
Each year since undergoing its initial BRC audit in 2013, the Atchison distillery has achieved BRC’s peak grade, which until three years ago was a Grade A. The same is true with results of annual BRC audits that have been conducted at the company’s Lawrenceburg distillery since 2014. For MGP’s protein and starch facility, 2017 marked the seventh time in as many years that this segment of the company has scored the BRC’s highest rating.
