The latest flavor of Bruce Cost’s Fresh Ginger Ale is “Passion Fruit with Yellow Ginger (Turmeric).” And that’s a pretty accurate way to describe the flavor, with a base of carbonated water that has been flavored with unfiltered ginger juice, passion fruit juice, and turmeric. The mixture, which is sweetened with sugar, has a nice balance of spice and tropical fruit flavor. While the ginger definitely takes center stage due to its natural spice, the passion fruit helps keep the drink from being overly spicy, while the turmeric adds an almost tea-like note to the finish. All in all, this is an extremely well executed formulation. The bottle, which is a standard clear 12 oz. glass bottle, has an artisanal look, although it borders on cluttered. Our biggest issue with the product is the treatment they give to the brand name, which makes it difficult to quickly figure out what this stuff is called. Otherwise, the liquid inside the bottle, which separates when the product sits, really speaks to the quality of the drink. Overall, this is a very well crafted ginger soda.
