California tea retailer, Southern Teaz expands throughout Northwestern grocery market
After selling out shelves at high-end, California grocer Nugget Market, iced tea maker Southern Teaz is finding its groove in the organic iced tea market.
“We noticed a lack of quality, ready-to-drink, premium, organic iced teas on the market. So we made [one] that is affordable,” says Jacob Morrow who co-founded the company with John Barbieri just one year ago. The duo wanted to establish an organic, iced tea company that used fresh fruits from local growers and set higher brewing standards to create a stellar beverage that stands out from other iced tea makers.
It seems they’ve hit the mark too, since the brand has now been picked up by Raley’s and Save Mart Supermarkets and expects to reach Whole Foods Market consumers after the first of the year.
“What makes Southern Teaz different from other tea companies is that, like a fine microbrewed beer, we use different tea leaves for each flavor we develop,” says Morrow. “We hand select our tea leaves to the flavor we’re developing to make sure it pairs well and we seek out farms that practice biodynamic farming.”
Brewed in Watsonville, California, Southern Teaz comes in black, green apple and peach flavors and retails at $4.99 for a 64-ounce glass jug. The company’s biodynamic farming methods ensure their tea is farmed using holistic, chemical-free methods and the company is committed to using non-GMO seeds and fair trade practices.
Southern Teaz is available in Nugget Markets, S&S Produce and Natural Foods and select stores in the Northwest. To find a location in your area or learn more visit www.southernteaz.com.
