Update Information for This Brand

Manufacturer's Brand Overview: [Edit]
Accelerade is the biggest stride in sports drinks in over 30 years. Accelerade ready-to-drink is the first and only protein-enhanced sports drink containing the patented 4:1 carbohydrate to protein ratio. Accelerade is designed for use during exercise and has been clinically proven to increase endurance up to 29 percent over ordinary sports drinks. More than a decade ago, top exercise physiologists teamed up to develop the ideal sports drink that delivers superior endurance. It was discovered that protein, in the right ratio to carbohydrates, was the key to unlocking superior performance over conventional sports drinks that contained carbohydrates alone. Cadbury Schweppes Americas Beverages acquired the Accelerade trademark in 2006 from Pacific Health Laboratories and maintained the patented 4:1 carbohydrate to protein ratio while developing a satisfying taste athletes demand in a sports drink. The introduction of Accelerade ready-to-drink in 20-ounce bottles makes the 4:1 advantage conveniently available to all consumers.

Fruit Punch

Product Type:Sports Drinks: Sports Drink; Container: 20 fl oz (591 ml) PET
BevNET Review: The Fruit Punch variety of Accelerade has a slightly sour flavor and a relatively low level of sweetness. We've never tried the powdered version of Accelerade, but we are willing to guess that it doesn't taste much different than this product, which drinks very much like a powdered product you'd make at home. There's also a touch of dairy to the flavor, which helps to combat the bitterness, but unfortunately doesn't do a good enough job. The label of the product is way too busy, which will likely make consumers miss the intended function of the product. Overall, a decent entry which would probably benefit from some simplification to the label as the benefits seem a bit lost in the busy design.

Peach Mango

Product Type:Sports Drinks: Sports Drink; Container: 20 fl oz (591 ml) PET
BevNET Review: Peach Mango is a decent addition to the Accelerade lineup. It has mild peach and mango flavors, with a milky undertone that we didn't see in the other flavors. While we don't mind the milky flavor, we would like to see some improvement to the peach mango flavor. Currently they aren't overly natural tasting and get in the way of the refreshment value of the drink. Plus, they've got this nagging packaging issue (see the other reviews), which, when combined with the unnatural tasting fruit flavors, makes this product in need of some help.

Citrus Grapefruit

Product Type:Sports Drinks: Sports Drink; Container: 20 fl oz (591 ml) PET
BevNET Review: Citrus Grapefruit is the best flavor of the lineup, which is due in part to the use of sour citrus flavors that hide the aftertaste that was cited in the other varieties. This flavor is very pleasant to drink, with a lemon flavor hitting your tongue first followed by a mild splash of grapefruit. It's a natural flavor that is high in terms of refreshment value. Packaging, on the other hand, is still a bit too busy for us. We don't mind what they've done with the black and white photos, but there's just too much going for the buyer to digest. Plus, they've buried the name of the flavor down on the bottom of the label -- which is, in our opinion, never something that the consumer should have to look too hard to find. Overall, a great tasting product that would be much improved with a cleaner label.
