Energy Punch

Product Type:Carbonated Soft Drink: Regular; Container: 16 fl oz (473 ml)
BevNET Review: Boo-Koo's "Punch" flavored energy drink actually tastes more like cherry than fruit punch. We won't, however, hold that against them -- it's a very enjoyable cherry flavor. They've done a great job of creating a flavor that starts with sweet fruit flavor and finishes with a nice bite, giving the product high refreshment value and credibility as an energy flavor. The bright red fluid offers just the right amount of carbonation to complement the flavor. Packaging is just like the other Boo-Koo flavors, but they need to make the flavor a bit more prominent. As the packaging currently stands, the consumer is required to read rather small vertical text OR make the connection between the color red and fruit punch. Otherwise, a great addition to the lineup.Reviewed on: 8/7/2007

BooKoo Jugo

Product Type:Functional: Energy Drink: Regular; Container: 16 fl oz (473 ml) can
BevNET Review: BooKoo Jugo has a flavor that basically tastes like Fanta, which is good, if you like a super-charged Fanta/CSD, but the flavor is slightly less fruity and complex than other energy/juice blends. Jugo does, however, pack plenty of energy punch. The bright orange can has a barb wire looking design to it, making it stand out from the rest of the BooKoo lineup. Plus, there's the name "Jugo" which is an attempt to attract Spanish-speaking consumers. We would, however, like to see the Jugo name placed a bit more prominently on the label. Overall, a good entry into the juice/energy hybrid category. Our only suggestion is to improve the fruit juice flavor -- it has a bit too much white grape flavor to it in its current form.Reviewed on: 2/20/2007

BooKoo Zero Carb

Product Type:Functional: Energy Drink: Regular; Container: 24 oz can
BevNET Review: BooKoo Zero Carb features the same refreshing citrus flavor as the original. Its sucralose/ace-K sweeteners mesh very nicely with the formulation, leaving only a slight aftertaste. The packaging features the same attractive flaming font used with the original, only Zero Carb's is yellow instead of orange. We feel The Love Factor could better distinguish the packaging to avoid customer confusion. In general, we are not sure that the Zero Carb will achieve the same popularity as the original, given that the young men that are presumably the primary target for this brand are not an overly carb-conscious demographic. Nevertheless, taste and packaging are ultimately what make a beverage, and BooKoo Zero Carb has got both of those aspects down pat.Reviewed on: 2/21/2006

Wild Berry

Product Type:Functional: Energy Drink: Regular; Container: 16 fl oz (473 ml) can
BevNET Review: As the name clearly states, this flavor of Boo Koo Energy Drink features a wild-berry flavor that's sweet and fruity. The pink colored fluid has a mild amount of carbonation and goes down quite easy. Boo Koo Wild Berry does a good job of providing the consumer with a CSD-like flavor that does not have any energy aftertaste. As far as the packaging goes, it's on par with the other flavors of the brand. While it doesn't necessarily jump off the shelf at you, it's clean, black can presents an image that could fit with potentially any mainstream demographic. Overall, a good job from Boo Koo.Reviewed on: 2/14/2006

BooKoo Energy Drink

Product Type:Functional: Energy Drink: Regular; Container: 24 fl oz can (710 ml)
BevNET Review: BooKoo Energy Drink uses a very similar (if not the same) formula as The Love Factor's successful Pure Power Energy Drink, but is packaged in a re-branded 24 ounce can. Promising to be the "biggest, baddest" energy drink, BooKoo's package (a category first) is truly that and can be summed up in one word: gigantic. The distinct citrus flavor is very good while the three serving size creates an attractive value proposition to the consumer. We definitely give Love Factor some credit for being an innovator with the new package size, but we also most consider how a package of this size might fit the category. Naysayers will likely bring up issues similar to those that the 16 ounce category faced in its early days. Specifically, the lack of a re-sealable closure and the increased height of the can. BooKoo has the opportunity to quiet those folks if it is able to perform well through its deal with 7-11, which gives the product national exposure. Overall, BooKoo enters the category with a good taste and an attractive image and only time will tell us if the 24 ounce can will be the next big thing for the energy drink category.Reviewed on: 1/31/2006

BooKoo Energy Shot Wild Berry

Product Type:Functional: Energy Drink: Regular; Container: 5.75 fl oz can (170 ml)
BevNET Review: This berry-scented -- if not berry-flavored -- entrant into the line of little Boo Koo energy drinks doesn’t have as much of a bitter aftertaste as its Citrus counterpart, but there’s still enough of a bite to let you know that the folks at Boo Koo have really thrown a concentrated amount of caffeine into their little 5.75 oz. cans. The vertically-aligned flaming Boo Koo logo does really pop off the can, making for a neat little package only a little larger than a D-Cell battery. Overall, we like the flavor -- although the caffeine aftertaste could be better -- and we like the package, so this is definitely a product that we would recommend giving a try.Reviewed on: 4/5/2005

Boo Koo Energy Shot Citrus

Product Type:Functional: Energy Drink: Regular; Container: 5.75 fl oz can (170 ml)
BevNET Review: Boo Koo, the company that has teamed up with Shaquille O’Neal to endorse its big, big 24 oz. can of energy drinks, has now unleashed its small lineup. These tiny 5.75 oz. cans pack a powerful punch. Bitter with caffeine, the Citrus flavor delivers the goods quickly, and with a nice light aroma. The second that bitter after bite hits you, however, we’re pretty sure that most consumers will be thankful that they packaged this in such a small can. There might very well be a market for these little guys, as they can even fit in a jeans pocket, and we appreciate their efforts to make unique products. Overall, a good entry with a well-designed, attractive package.Reviewed on: 4/5/2005
