Mijenta, the award-winning, additive-free, sustainably produced tequila from the Highlands of Jalisco, today announced the release of Symphony Series No. 3, the brand’s latest limited edition matured in unique Symphony barrels. Aged for 18 months and bottled at 45% ABV, this high-proof Añejo resonates with Mijenta’s respect for time, craftsmanship, and terroir.
Symphony Series No. 3 follows 2024’s acclaimed Cristalino and last year’s high-proof Reposado, which scored 98 points and was awarded Double Gold at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition.
“This series continues to be an extremely interesting journey for me in the exploration of barrel aging,” said Maestra Tequilera Ana María Romero. “Each release in our Symphony Series, from our initial Cristalino, to our Reposado last year, to this exquisite Añejo, showcases how we can highlight different aspects of both the terroir of the agave and the unique, unpredictable characteristics of our Symphony barrels. For me, doing small-batch releases is incredibly inspiring because there is always so much more we can discover when it comes to tequila.”
Both balanced and rich, Symphony Series No. 3 offers on the nose notes of cooked agave, vanilla, subtle smoke, semi-sweet chocolate, caramel, rose petals, and dulce de leche. These aromas are reflected on the palate as well, with particularly pronounced notes of agave, chocolate, orange, rose petals, and dulce de leche.
“Aging tequila is a delicate art because I aim to incorporate the notes from the barrel, but without ever overwhelming the flavors of the agave,” Romero continued. “This Añejo achieves a harmonious balance between the characteristic fruity and citrus notes of the Highlands, with the depth and complexity of our Symphony barrels.”
Mijenta’s Symphony barrels—casks whose staves each come from the oak forests of Minnesota, Missouri, Pennsylvania, and Virginia—create a completely unique environment in which the spirit transforms and evolves, developing new and complex flavors as it interacts with the different pore structures, terroir, and aromatics of each type of wood.
Using the cooperage’s proprietary method, the staves are toasted over a low-burning “chaufferette” (heat) while being continually sprayed with water. This unique toasting method opens the pores and allows a deeper penetration into the stave, bringing soft and delicate aromas, elegance, and balance to the spirit. This toast releases the wood’s fruit flavors, along with a powerful aromatic bouquet.
The monarch butterfly design on the packaging, created in collaboration with Japanese artist Hiroko Otake, pays homage to the annual migration of millions of butterflies from the United States and Canada to the UNESCO-protected oyamel fir forests of central Mexico. This awe-inspiring phenomenon of natural beauty is captured on these individually hand-silk-screened bottles.
As with all Mijenta expressions, the packaging for Symphony Series No. 3 is sustainably designed. The bottle is made from recycled glass, the cap is a biopolymer made from sugar cane fiber, and the box is made from FSC-certified cardboard.
Priced at $119.99 (750 mL), Mijenta Symphony Series No. 3 will be available in the U.S. from March 23, 2026.
