Lemonade

Product Type:Juice: Juice Drink; Container: 16oz Glass
BevNET Review: The flagship flavor of Mr. Mo’s Lemonade is presumably this variety, which is simply called “Lemonade.” Like the rest of the line, it’s USDA Organic-certified and it features 11 percent juice (lemon juice from concentrate). Inside the bottle, there’s some good lemonade flavor, but it’s definitely not the best tasting bottle of lemonade that we’ve ever had. The lemon flavor is clearly from concentrate, which is probably most apparent in the slight tang that you get on the tail end of the product. That said, this product is one that is certainly enjoyable, although it doesn’t offer anything inside the bottle that’s necessarily worth going out of your way for. On the outside, the branding and label design are clearly taking a playful angle. However, something seems disconnected between the name “Mr. Mo’s” and the image of the male and female lemons drinking lemonade. It’s cute and amusing, but the brand itself doesn’t really say anything in particular to us. And in the organic space, where the brand will compete with other brands that are pretty direct in what they stand for, this approach will make the brand either stand out or be overlooked. From our perspective, furthering the design into something that feels more modern would definitely help this brand not fall into the latter bucket. Overall, a decent product, but we think it needs to do more if it’s going to succeed.Reviewed on: 1/21/2013

Half & Half

Product Type:Juice: Juice Drink; Container: 16oz Glass
BevNET Review: Mr. Mo’s take on “Half & Half” is a USDA Organic certified drink that blends 5% juice (lemon juice from concentrate), green tea extracts, lemon flavor, sugar, and water. In terms of the Mr. Mo’s lineup, this was our favorite flavor that we sampled. Unlike most of the ice tea and lemonade combinations out there, they’ve gone the less popular route of using green tea instead of black. As a result, the flavor is smoother and lighter in body, with the tart and tang of the base lemonade flavor providing a nice complement to the naturally grassy flavor of green tea. On the outside, the product’s 16 oz. stock glass bottle has a black cap and label that feature prime placement of the USDA Organic seal. Otherwise, the slightly retro looking label has a pretty innocuous look to it. However, the off kilter branding is something that we’d have a hard time identifying with, especially given that there are several well established and well branded products playing in the organic lemonade space already. Still, it seems like a product that might have appeal where those brands don’t, especially as you skew towards more mainstream retail. Overall, we’re not blown away by this product, but it’s definitely a solid start that can be improved upon.Reviewed on: 1/21/2013

Blackberry

Product Type:Juice: Juice Drink; Container: 16oz Glass
BevNET Review: After making our way through the Lemonade and Half & Half varieties, we honestly found it a bit overwhelming to see that there are four fruit flavors in the Mr. Mo’s line. Trying all four of them, we were slightly disappointed to see that most of the flavors had only fruit flavoring (instead of juice) to create the fruit flavor (note: all of the flavors have lemon juice). However, the Blackberry flavor does, in fact, include additional juice, albeit elderberry and not blackberry. With the aid of flavoring, they’ve definitely created something that is what you’d expect blackberry flavored lemonade to taste like. But if you read the ingredients list on the side of the label, you’re sure to be disappointed. Maybe they aren’t going after label readers, but the prominence of the USDA Organic seal definitely means that some consumers are going to look at what’s in this product. Beyond that, we really feel as though they should focus on nailing their raspberry and mango flavors (which are probably the two most marketable flavors they have) and perhaps skip the raspberry and blackberry flavors altogether. Not that this is a bad product, but it definitely feels like something that has a much more narrow niche than some of their other offerings. Overall, a good product, but we think that the fruit flavors in the line should focus on having a more natural fruit flavor. Reviewed on: 1/21/2013
