SoBe Elixir - Pomegranate Cranberry

BevNET Review:
Riding on the coattails of POM Wonderful's major advertising campaign promoting pomegranates, the timing of this product couldn't be better. Consumers will undoubtedly reach for this product, which bears a much lower price tag and a much more mainstream flavor than POM Wonderful. However, these consumers should not expect much from the addition of pomegranate to this flavor. Instead, they should expect a sweet beverage with an almost cherry-cranberry like flavor. With 5% juice, it's more the run-of-the-mill product for SoBe. However, it's slightly less sweet than many of SoBe flavors out there, so we'll give it a few bonus points. Overall, it's a decent entry taste wise -- and it will undoubtedly grab consumer attention due to the use of pomegranate.

Black & Blue Berry Brew

BevNET Review:
Originally announced at NACS 2003, Black & Blue Berry Brew is a decent tasting entry to the SoBe product line. It features a light dairy taste to the body of the product (the product contains skim milk and trace amounts of cream) which combines well with the berry flavor of the beverage. In addition, the use of the dairy helps hide the somewhat syrupy nature of this product. So, what do we think of this product? Well, as far as SoBe products go, it's definitely one of their better additions. Beyond that, this product is not really a stand out by any means. Decent taste, but a formula that definitely could be improved upon.

SoBe Courage - Cherry Citrus

SoBe Courage is, as the label states, a cherry citrus flavored beverage. The main selling point of this product, however, will be the addition of ginseng, guarana, and taurine -- ingredients which are typically found in energy drinks. Perhaps this product will pull away some consumers who can't stomach the taste of the countless energy drinks on the market today -- the sweet cherry/citrus flavor is much easier to stomach. Overall, a decent drink, but not high quality by any means.

Long John Lizard's Grape Grog

SoBe's Grape Grog is a grape juice flavored beverage that features 5% fruit juice. In addition, this product has been enhanced with grape seed extract, zinc, and vitamin C to provide a little something extra. As for the flavor, it has a mild grape juice flavor, but without the bitterness usually associated with it. In addition, Grape Grog is not as sweet as some of the other SoBe products. Overall, a decent tasting entry by SoBe. Extra points for the pirate-themed lizard on the label.

Sobe Fuerte

We haven't tested any of SoBe's 20oz juice cocktails in a while and we have to say, we were pleasantly surprised. SoBe Fuerte, which is aimed at the Hispanic customer, has a refreshing flavor that's part tropical and part citrus. In addition, it has an almost "prickly pear"-like flavor (perhaps from the jamaica / yerba mate) that creates an almost fuzzy feeling in your mouth. The downside of this product is that it's rather sweet, it has a low juice content, and it has a lot of calories. However, if you're going to reach for a SoBe, we'd definitely recommend giving this one a try.

SoBe Orange Carrot Elixir 3C

BevNET Review:
SoBe is making its second attempt at an orange carrot beverage with this entry. In fact, it really is the same beverage but with added nutrients. The carrot flavor in this version is not as strong as in the original version, but nonetheless, it still tastes quite strange. The sweet flavor of orange mixed with the vegetable taste of carrots is a strange combination. Maybe the combination of orange and carrots just wasn't meant to be... The bottom line is that this beverage tastes strange. The concept is good, but the flavor needs some work.

SoBe Cranberry Grapefruit Elixir

This beverage tastes like an enhanced version of the South Beach Hurricane Nite Cap flavor from their original line. This beverage should be called 4C - calcium, carnitine, chromium, & caffeine. Why they added caffeine, we really do not know. It gives the beverage that "caffeinated flavor." The strong flavor of grapefruit really makes this beverage taste fruity, despite only having 10% juice. A little more might help! Grapefruit is such a strong flavor...increase the cranberry juice content. It's not a bad beverage, but it needs some slight improvement.

SoBe Zen Blend

Zen Blend is a delicious brew of Oolong and Black teas flavored with a touch of orange and ginger. The beverage is further enhanced by SoBe's triple ginseng (Asian, Siberian, & American) formula and Shizandra. Zen Blend is a full flavored and highly refreshing brew of tea. The orange and ginger flavors add a nice splash of flavor.

SoBe Energy

SoBe Energy has a very strong caffienated citrus flavor. We have no idea how much juice is actually in the product, but we can tell you that the product tastes somewhat syrupy and artificial. This is a result of the mixture of caffeine and juice flavors, which do not normally go together. However, this is a necessity in an energy beverage. We do have to give them some credit for using juice in their energy beverage, but we must also comment on the syrupy feel of this beverage. This beverage needs some improvement in this area before it will be a superior beverage.

Sobe Wisdom

Sobe Wisdom is a combination of orange and mango juices, plus the added herbal benefits of St. John's Wort, Guto Kola, and Ginkgo Biloba. The flavor is a bit too strong and doesn't taste like real mango or orange. The herbal additives are nice, but the flavor needs some work.

SoBe Power

Power is an interesting tasting beverage from SoBe. Featuring Proline, Creatine, and Taurine, this beverage is meant to revitalize you and give you energy. In addition to these functional ingredients, SoBe Power has caffeine in it -- and you can taste it. As for the fruit flavors in this product, aronia berry and grape juice are what give this product its tart flavor. Overall, a good beverage with energy enhancing qualities -- if you don't mind the taste of caffeine.

SoBe Tsunami is Sobe's latest addition to it's dairy based line of energy drinks. Featuring a sweet and creamy orange flavor, Tsunami is anything but your ordinary energy drink. Unlike most other energy drinks, Tsunami actually tastes good! In addition to a refreshing orange cream flavor, this product features Taurine, Guarana, and Zinc to help energize you and sustain peak energy levels. Overall, a very refreshing product.

Black Tea3G

SoBe Black Tea has much different taste than any other iced tea we have ever tried. It's all based around a fine tasting brew of black tea. While black tea is not really anything new, they have added a new twist to it by combining ginseng, ginkgo, and guarana (three of today's most popular natural additives) to create a taste that is very interesting and unique. The flavor is bold and potent, yet smooth and easy to drink. The BevNET! Reviews Staff highly enjoyed the sweet, herbal flavor of this beverage. Simply one of the best iced teas that we have ever had!

Green Tea3G with Echinacea

SoBe Green Tea 3G is the most mellow tasting tea of the entire line. It starts with a green tea base (an already light tasting tea) and flavors it with lemon, mint, and, of course, sweetener. We were really impressed with the real mint leaf flavor of this beverage. This gives it the always desired homemade taste. A perfectly flavored, light and refreshing tea.
