Review: Drink Maple - 12 Oz

Marketed as a “pure maple water,” Drink Maple is made with a single ingredient: maple sap (which, unknown to most, is a thin, watery liquid). If you’re like most people, the first thing that comes to mind when you hear maple sap is maple syrup. Yet when it comes to flavor, this product is a distant cousin from the stuff that you put on pancakes. Instead, this is the sap that is harvested from maple trees, minimally processed and packaged up in ready-to-drink form. The flavor is light and refreshing, with just a touch of maple sweetness to it. Compared with the first version of this product that we sampled in 2014, this one appears to be ever so slightly sweeter, but it’s still very low in calories (25 per 8 oz. along with 5g of sugar). All in all, this is a very enjoyable and refreshing tasting product. Nutritionally, the product’s low-calorie profile is a huge plus and the product also has electrolytes and 40 percent RDA of manganese (more than a cup of kale as the company points out on the packaging). The packaging has also been improved and expanded since we first took a look at the product. There’s now a light blue accent color on the logo, and the company now has a total of three different package formats (8.45 oz. Tetra Pak carton, 32 oz. Tetra Pak carton, and a 12 oz. PET). We’re probably most partial to the 12 oz. and 32 oz. formats, but the company has done a nice job designing all three. In addition, this latest iteration includes a better callout for the name “Drink Maple.” There still seems to be a slight visual disconnect between the two words (“Drink” is in a much lighter weight font), but it’s much closer to where it needs to be. Overall, this is a big step forward for the product.
