Review: Organic Coconut Matcha (2015)

With seemingly everyone getting into the matcha game, it was only a matter of time until we saw some of the bigger high pressure processed (HPP) juice brands get in the game. This product is a 100 percent juice blend of coconut water, pineapple, celery, cucumber, mango puree, spinach, romaine, lettuce, kale, matcha and parsley juice. For having as many ingredients as it does, the product is surprisingly light in body thanks to the use of coconut water. The liquid is bright green, but not overly heavy on either the matcha or green juice flavors. Instead, these flavors play in the background, with the matcha being most noticeable in the drink’s lingering finish. The added pineapple and mango gives the product a note of fresh tropical fruit flavor, which goes surprisingly well with the other flavors. It adds some depth to the product, but, despite being puree (in the case of the mango), doesn’t add any noticeable thickness to the product. All in all, Evolution Fresh has done an exceptional job formulating this product -- it’s probably one of our favorite Evolution Fresh flavors that we’ve had in a long time. Nutritionally, the product has a modest 70 calories and 13g of sugars per 8 oz. serving. On the packaging front, this product, which is one of its organic varieties designed for the natural channel, comes packaged in a 15.2 oz. square plastic bottle. While we like the overall look of the design, we have to say that there’s a general lack of visual differentiation between the brand's ever-expanding flavor set. It’s at the point where the labels could use an additional element to make it easier to tell them apart. And that’s really the only thing that we’d change about this product.
