Spindrift: Tangerine

The Tangerine flavor of Spindrift “Water” is a blend of sparkling water and tangerine juice with no added sweetener. The tangerine juice, which has been used extremely sparingly, gives the product a flavor profile that is tart and refreshing, but restrained when it comes to sweetness. It basically tastes like seltzer with a splash of tangerine juice, which, based on the use of the word “Water,” is clearly what they are going for. For a 10 calorie sparkling beverage, we really like the simple and clean approach that they’ve taken. Visually, the liquid has a yellowish color, which certainly makes it look pretty similar to their flagship soda flavors. However, we’re still hung up on the word “Water,” which might confuse consumers. Still, we like where they are going with this product -- it’s a great way to introduce a low calorie product without compromising the brand. Overall, great flavor and concept, but the messaging needs to be improved.
