Suja has added a few more varieties to its Elements line of juice smoothies. Like all Suja products, the new Elements flavors are cold-pressed and high-pressure processed, and while we have mixed feelings about some of the new varieties in terms of packaging and branding, the formulation and flavor of the products are excellent.

Looking to broaden its base of consumers, Suja has introduced Elements, a new line of 12 oz. cold-pressed, HPP and organic juice blends that bridge the gap between the company’s flagship line and the bottled smoothie category. The new line comes in three flavors — each with a more mainstream-focused price of $4.99 — and from our perspective, Suja has done an excellent job with the formulation and branding of the products.
Indeed, cold-pressed, super-premium juices, the majority of which are sold by natural retailers, have attracted a tremendous amount of attention and enthusiasm, and sustained growth appears to be a forgone conclusion. However, a deeper examination of the category reveals a potentially challenging path for new brands.

Accepting too many disparate offers has the potential to spread a brand too quickly or even to gut its identity. Therefore, several speakers at BevNET Live last week in New York City echoed Nancy Reagan, advising entrepreneurs to “just say ‘no.’”
