NACS SHOW 2005 Has Been Relocated to Las Vegas, November 15-18, 2005

As we have noted in previous updates, NACS and other organizations holding trade shows in New Orleans have been in regular communication with the New Orleans Convention and Visitors Bureau regarding the city’s ability and desire to host events this fall. Out of respect for the city and its convention bureau, NACS has honored their request to allow them adequate time to assess the situation. On September 1, they informed NACS and a number of other organizations that the city will not be able to host scheduled events for these organizations and will work with them, if needed, to secure alternate arrangements.

Because of strong member interest in having the NACS SHOW, over the past several days NACS has been actively engaged in researching viable options in the event that New Orleans were to inform us that it was not capable of hosting the NACS SHOW this year.

The size and scope of the NACS SHOW are immense; 25,000 attendees from the United States and over 40 foreign countries, gross exhibition space of almost 1 million square feet, and over 1,400 exhibitors. Only a few cities are capable of hosting an event of this size. NACS initiated detailed discussions with the cities that have such capabilities. On Thursday, after reviewing all viable options, the NACS Executive Committee unanimously approved the relocation of the NACS SHOW 2005 to Las Vegas on November 15-18.

The decision to relocate the event was made after an intensive examination of resources to determine not only if a NACS SHOW could be held, but held with the same high standards that is expected of NACS. We are confident that this will be accomplished.

The relocation to Las Vegas will incorporate as many existing plans and commitments as possible. A headquarters hotel room block at the Las Vegas Hilton has been secured that exceeds that contracted for the NACS SHOW in New Orleans. The Las Vegas Convention Bureau has also committed to providing enough additional rooms for the full NACS SHOW contingent.

The tradeshow floor will be designed to resemble, as closely as possible, the New Orleans Show’s layout. The expo will take place in a more centrally located area of the Las Vegas Convention Center than the area used last year. It will encompass the same one-level hall that was used for the NACS SHOW 2001.

There will be a few differences in the NACS SHOW with this relocation. First, the Show will now take place Tuesday through Friday, as opposed to the typical Las Vegas schedule of Sunday through Wednesday. Second, NACS will not conduct store tours, tours of local attractions or the post-Show store tour designed for international attendees.

The schedule for the NACS SHOW 2005 in Las Vegas is outlined below, as are answers to the most frequently asked questions (FAQs) that we have received to date. We will continue to deliver updates via e-mail and on our Web sites, and, in the coming days.

Finally, NACS will continue to work with the city of New Orleans to help the city get back on its feet as quickly as possible in recovering from the devastation associated with Hurricane Katrina.

Information for Show Attendees and Exhibitors

If you have registered for the NACS SHOW 2005, your badge and registration credentials will be mailed to you no later then the first week of October.

If you have not yet registered, you may take advantage of super saver registration pricing through September 30, 2005.

If you are not able to attend the relocated NACS SHOW in Las Vegas, you are eligible to receive a full refund of your registration fee. Please submit your refund request in writing via fax or e-mail to NACS at: (703) 836-4564 (fax) or

Exhibiting Information
We are in the process of having the exhibit floor plan redrawn to fit in the Las Vegas Convention Center. If you had previously received confirmation of booth space at the NACS SHOW 2005, you will receive detailed information from NACS regarding the timeline for new space assignments, service kit forms and other exhibiting information during the week of September 4.

Hotel Information
NACS is in the process of contracting room blocks with major hotels in Las Vegas. Given the abundance of hotel rooms in Las Vegas, we will be able to accommodate all reservations made through CMR, the NACS SHOW housing company. The NACS SHOW room block will be secured according to the new Show dates.

No credit cards have been charged for the NACS SHOW in New Orleans, nor have any penalties been imposed.

All individuals and groups who have reserved housing through NACS housing will receive an email on Tuesday, September 6, that will provide details of the plan for transferring reservations to Las Vegas.

For those who made reservations at the headquarter hotel (New Orleans Hilton) your reservations will be automatically transferred to the new headquarter hotel (Las Vegas Hilton).

For those with reservations in other New Orleans hotels (within the NACS housing block) you will have the opportunity to select housing from the hotels in the new NACS block in Las Vegas.

Individuals and groups that have not secured housing for the NACS SHOW 2005 should check on September 15, the anticipated opening date for NACS SHOW housing in Las Vegas.

We have researched airline Web sites of all major carriers that provide service to New Orleans. In most cases, they are waiving change fees for flights that are currently booked with travel commencing in the next 30-60 days. Please check with your carrier immediately regarding rebooking your flights to Las Vegas.

Group Meetings and Business Appointment Center Meeting Rooms
If you requested function space or business appointment center (BAC) meeting rooms, we will work to reassign your space as requested and send you confirmation of space by the week of September 22.
