PURCHASE, NY – October 1, 2007 – Deborah Chastain of Thomasville, Georgia, will be leading the cheers for the No. 24 DuPont/Pepsi Chevrolet on October 7 when Jeff Gordon races in the paint scheme she designed. Earlier this year, Jeff Gordon, together with Pepsi, handed creative control over to the fans by asking consumers to create their own paint-out design for the car that Gordon will race in the UAW-Ford 500.
Wal-Mart stores across the country featured the Pepsi program, and Chastain’s design was chosen from thousands submitted at www.pepsiracing.com. From there, legendary NASCAR artist Sam Bass narrowed down the submissions to five finalists, allowing Jeff Gordon to ultimately choose the winning design.
"You can’t imagine how exciting this is for a fan," said Chastain. "I would especially like to thank Pepsi and Jeff Gordon for allowing fans the opportunity to participate in this contest. I really enjoyed picking out the colors, designing the paint scheme and adding my version of Jeff’s flames to the car. I never dreamed that I would eventually see Jeff Gordon getting behind the wheel of something I had a hand in designing."
"This was a really fun program, not only for the fans, but for me too," said Gordon. "It was a unique opportunity and one that allowed the fans to get even closer to the racing experience. I want to congratulate Deborah for standing out in the crowd. I will do my best to drive that No. 24 DuPont/Pepsi Chevrolet to Victory Lane at Talladega."
Deborah and a guest will receive VIP passes to the UAW-Ford 500 at Talladega Superspeedway, scoring some one-on-one time with Jeff Gordon before the race.
