Naked Juice’s reNEWabottle Used For More Sizes

MONROVIA, Calif., Nov. 11, 2010Naked® Juice, the super-premium juice maker known for using only the best bare-naked fruits and vegetables, continues its promise of transparency — literally — with the introduction of the reNEWabottle® for its 10-oz., 15.2-oz., and 64-oz. juice and juice smoothies. Made from 100-percent post-consumer recycled plastic, the reNEWabottle will reduce virgin plastic consumption by 7.4 million pounds per year. This bottle, essentially made from other bottles, provides juice lovers a clear view of the all-natural goodness.

"At Naked Juice, we've always been transparent about what we put into our juices and smoothies, using only the highest quality ingredients and never adding sugars or preservatives," said Brad Armistead, Director of Marketing, Naked Juice. "The transition to the reNEWabottle is a natural evolution to fulfill our brand mission of making superior products while minimizing our impact on the environment."

A Bottle Made From Other Bottles

Naked Juice initially unveiled the reNEWabottle in 2009 for its 32-oz. bottles — the first nationally distributed beverage to do so. The reNEWabottle, also known as rPET (renewable polyethylene terephthalate), is plastic coded #1, which is easily recycled and clear — showing off the vibrant juice inside.

The transition to the reNEWabottle helps Naked Juice to reduce its overall carbon footprint and will save more than 12,000 cubic meters of space in landfills. Using recycled bottles instead of virgin PET will also reduce the bottle's greenhouse gas emissions by 35 percent, the equivalent of saving more than 500,000 gallons of gas a year.

In addition to the reNEWabottle, Naked Juice has taken its commitment to a new level by announcing its sponsorship support of two organizations dedicated to improving the environment through recycling education. Naked Juice is now a partner of RecycleBank®, a leading green rewards program that motivates people to take environmental actions. Naked Juice will launch interactive content with RecycleBank, leveraging the company's Learn & Earn platform to educate consumers on the power of recycling virgin PET and the environmental benefits of the reNEWabottle. After engaging with the content and playing a short game, consumers will be rewarded with RecycleBank points that can be redeemed for rewards from participating local and national business partners, including Naked Juice products. To further its commitment to recycling, Naked Juice is a proud sponsor of America Recycles Day (November 15) and Keep America Beautiful, Inc., a volunteer-based community action and education organization.

"Partnering with RecycleBank and Keep America Beautiful was a natural fit for all parties involved," said Armistead. "With the expansion of the reNEWabottle, it's critical to educate consumers about ongoing sustainability efforts because, together, we can help reduce the amount of plastic in our landfills and in turn, make new Naked Juice bottles."

"Keep America Beautiful and Naked Juice will celebrate America Recycles Day together," said Matthew McKenna, President and CEO, Keep America Beautiful. "This partnership will inform people everywhere that when customers and companies join forces, closed-loop recycling works. It's easy for everyone to support, and can make a truly positive impact on the environment."

"Naked Juice has made an enormous commitment to sustainability with its products and practices," said Ian Yolles, Chief Marketing Officer, RecycleBank. "We look forward to working with Naked Juice and sharing the Learn & Earn content so consumers can learn how to take small steps toward more environmentally friendly actions."

Keeping true to its core values, Naked Juice has taken these additional steps to promote sustainability and reduce its environmental impact:

– In 2009, Naked Juice started working with Rainforest Alliance to procure its bananas, which are in 80 percent of Naked Juice products. Rainforest Alliance is an international nonprofit organization that works to ensure sustainable livelihoods for people, while protecting wildlife and the environment.

– Naked Juice's commitment to sourcing only the best fruits and vegetables also has strong inherent carbon advantages. Naked Juice completed a full carbon lifecycle assessment and developed a comprehensive long-term plan to shrink its carbon footprint.

– Naked Juice recently rebuilt its manufacturing facility using state-of-the-art technology and has been awarded the prestigious LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification from the U.S. Green Building Council. The facility design incorporates energy and water efficiency characteristics that go well beyond the industry standard.

Naked Juice has begun the transition to the reNEWabottle for its 10-oz., 15.2-oz., and 64-oz. juices and smoothies in November 2010, with the full evolution complete by January 1, 2011.
