LAS VEGAS (Nov. 7, 2011)— XYIENCE, maker of Xenergy, the official energy drink of the UFC, invites mixed martial arts (MMA) fans to meet XYIENCE team athlete Mark Muñoz, who fights in the UFC’s middleweight division. On Friday, Nov. 18, Muñoz will sign autographs at GNC, the nation’s largest specialty retailer of health and wellness products, located at 2855 Stevens Creek Blvd. in Santa Clara, Calif. On Saturday, Nov. 19, Muñoz will sign autographs at Zanotto’s Willow Glen Market, located at 1421 Foxworthy Ave. in San Jose. Both events are from noon to 1:30 p.m.
Muñoz (12-2), known as “The Filipino Wrecking Machine,” defeated Chris Leben at UFC®138: Leben vs. Muñoz on Nov. 5 in Birmingham, England. His win by technical knockout (TKO) in the second round marks his fourth consecutive victory in the last 12 months.
The 33-year-old launched his professional fighting career in 2008 at WEC 34 where he defeated Chuck Grigsby via TKO. He made his UFC debut on March 7, 2009 where he has a 7-2 record including his recent victory. He’s also defeated Demian Maia, CB Dolloaway and Arron Simpson.
The events kick off an exciting UFC weekend that includes UFC®139: Shogun vs. Henderson Nov. 19 at the HP Pavilion in San Jose. That night, XYIENCE team athlete Wanderlei Silva faces Cung Le in a middleweight bout.
Muñoz is an acclaimed collegiate wrestler and former NCAA Division I national champion whose skills have earned him the reputation as one of the top wrestlers in MMA. Holding a purple belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, the Oklahoma State University alumnus is also a two-time All-American, two-time Big 12 Conference champion and a silver medalist in the 1998 Junior World Championships.
In addition to his athletic accomplishments, while earning a bachelor’s degree in Health Science at OSU, Munoz was a two-time Academic All American, three-time Dean’s List Honoree and four-time Academic All-Big 12. He is currently working towards a master’s degree in Kinesiology/Sports Performance and recently opened an MMA training facility, Reign Training Center, in Lake Forest, Calif., where he resides with his wife and their four children.
