LAS VEGAS (May 24, 2011)— XYIENCE, maker of Xenergy, the official energy drink of the UFC, announces that legendary mixed martial arts (MMA) coach Rafael Cordeiro has joined Team XYIENCE as a brand ambassador. In his role with XYIENCE, Cordeiro will represent the brand at MMA events and will have a presence on www.xyience.com, including a monthly blog devoted to training.
A native of Brazil, Cordeiro has been coaching for 25 years and is a black belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu (BJJ) and Muay-Thai. He is also an MMA world champion and 30-time Brazilian Muay Thai champion who also helped to develop the popular and aggressive Chute Boxe style of fighting. He served as a head coach at the Chute Boxe Academy in Brazil before moving to the United States in 2008 to head the North American Chute Boxe Academy.
In 2009, he left to establish Kings MMA, a leading training facility in Huntington Beach, Calif., where he now works with some of the sport’s most successful athletes, including XYIENCE team members Mark Munoz, who Cordeiro will corner at UFC 131 (slated for June 11 in Vancouver) in his fight against Demian Maia. Cordeiro also works with Krzysztof Soszynski and longtime XYIENCE athlete Wanderlei Silva.
“I’ve coached Wanderlei for many years and he is an old friend, so for me, joining the XYIENCE team already feels like reuniting with family,” explains Cordeiro. Along with Silva, Cordeiro will also join XYIENCE brand ambassadors: Jon “Bones” Jones, Dan Hardy and Matt Serra, MMA coaches Dave Camarillo and Vinny Magalhaes, as well as UFC cutman Jacob “Stitch” Duran.
