strong>GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Boxed Water is Better®, the sustainable packaged water company, today announced its distribution sales more than doubled during 2013, fueled by expanded sales into new markets, several new retail accounts and a tripling of its number of distributors nationwide. Boxed Water is now available in 15 states and in markets in Mexico, Canada and overseas and is selling direct to consumers through boxedwaterisbetter.com.
While sales of traditional plastic bottled water has flatlined in the single digits, Boxed Water is experiencing double-digit growth, providing the convenience that consumers want in a more sustainable package. More than 75 percent of Boxed Water’s packaging is derived from renewable resources.
“The growth of the packaged water industry is growing faster than the economy itself, and consumers’ desire for a more sustainable packaged water solution is building at an even faster pace,” said Brett VanderKamp, president of Boxed Water. “With our expanding distribution network, we are making it easier for people to find Boxed Water in their local c-stores, on-premise and grocers.”
Consumers can now buy Boxed Water at Freshii restaurants, GFS Marketplace stores, dozens of hotels in New York, Chicago, Los Angeles and Hawai’i. The company’s network of 25 distributors now include Sysco, US Foods, UNFI and Lipari Foods, as well as a growing number of regional players.
Innovations in its bottling technology have allowed Boxed Water to produce 250,000 of its signature 500ml units in one week, and quickly create custom designed packaging for brands such as Lollapalooza, Austin City Limits, Adoba Hotel Group and Indiana University, among others.
“The visibility of the brand is among our greatest assets and our custom packaging program is giving buyers new opportunities to connect their brand with a product that’s better for the environment,” said Benjamin Gott, founder of Boxed Water. “Beyond what the Boxed Water brand represents, in 2014 we are looking to continue our leadership in packaging and sustainability because those things matter to us and our consumers.”
The Boxed Water container is a more sustainable packaged water than the traditional plastic bottled water. All of the trees used to make Boxed Water come from certified, well-managed forests. These forests remain healthy and stable through ongoing replanting while removing CO2 from the atmosphere.
