Makomas drinks, while both tantalizingly exotic and thirst quenching are made with only quality ingredients, natural sweeteners that are low in calories due to no added sugar. What sets Makomas products apart from all others? Magbè Savané answers, “We make sure to select the most delicate hibiscus flowers and moringa leaves to create our line of teas. We scour the African landscape to collect the fruits of the Baobab tree to make our Baobab flavored juices. We dig for the most prized ginger roots to make our ginger flavored juices. Our beverages are of the highest quality, ensuring refreshing pleasure and healthy nutrition in each sip.”

Magbè started Makomas LLC because she wanted to share the traditional drinks that she fondly remembered from her childhood in her native country of, Côte d’Ivoire, West Africa. Using family traditions handed down for generations, her mother made a variety of drinks for her family to enjoy as well as to sell as part of the family business. Today, the flavors of Hibiscus, Baobab, Moringa and Ginger, derived exclusively from sustainably grown fruits, flowers, leaves and roots, come to you as uniquely tasty beverages typical of West Africa but adapted for the American palate. In 2016, Magbè established the Makomas Foundation, a philanthropic initiative that provides meaningful economic opportunity to local women in Burkina Faso, West Africa. By sourcing most of the raw materials from small communities, Makomas Foundation supports the enterprising women who harvest and process much of the fruits used in Makomas beverages.

Makomas’ goals in the 2018 MassChallenge program are:

  • To participate in and contribute to, a growing network of like-minded innovative individuals.
