Along with the new status, Superior Switchel has become a certified member of 1% for the Planet, an international organization of businesses (like Patagonia and Good Culture) that pledge to donate at least 1% of their company’s annual sales to an approved environmentally focused nonprofit partner. Switchel is a non-alcoholic elixir from the late 17th century, made with four fresh, nutrient-dense ingredients: water, ginger, apple-cider-vinegar and an unrefined sweetener like honey or maple syrup. Unlike kombucha, switchel is absolutely alcohol- and caffeine-free. Owner and founder Melina Lamer, a former college hockey player, discovered switchel as a means to replenish and rehydrate after a night on the ice.
