WHITESTONE, N.Y.–BodyArmor, the fastest-growing sports drink in the category, today announced a partnership with rising basketball star, Donovan Mitchell. Mitchell, who is currently in his second year as a pro with Utah and was runner-up for last season’s Rookie of the Year Award, first discovered BodyArmor while watching one of his favorite players – basketball legend and BodyArmor shareholder, Kobe Bryant.
“Growing up, I loved watching Kobe play. When I noticed he was building this brand and leading a new, younger generation of top pro-athletes, I knew that I wanted to be part of it,” said Mitchell. “I’m thrilled to join the BodyArmor team and excited to show fans everywhere that there are better hydration options out there.”
Mitchell joins the team at an exciting time in the brand’s history as today’s athletes look for premium, better-for-you hydration choices. In August 2018, The Coca-Cola Company acquired a minority ownership stake in BodyArmor Sports Drink, making it the second largest shareholder in the company, and enabling BodyArmor to accelerate its growth and challenge the market leaders within the category. This past November, the brand announced that it will become the Official Sports Drink of the NCAA, including March Madness, beginning in 2019.
“Donovan Mitchell is one of the most electrifying, young players in the game today,” said Kobe Bryant. “Given how much the brand has grown in the last year, we’re excited to add a player of his caliber to our already impressive roster and show fans everywhere that today’s top athletes are ditching their outdated sports drinks and choosing BodyArmor.”
As part of the partnership, Mitchell will be featured in BodyArmor’s newest ad campaign set to launch later this year, appear in in-store and external advertising campaigns, be included in digital and social media activations, appear at local events and help to generate awareness for the brand throughout the country. Mitchell joins a team of superstar athlete partners for the brand including James Harden, Mike Trout, Dustin Johnson, Andrew Luck and Mookie Betts, among others. At 22-years old, Donovan Mitchell is one of the brightest young stars in the league. A first-round selection in 2017 draft, Mitchell has already received several accolades in his short time in the league.
