Summer Fancy Food Show 2019: New Products Gallery

While not quite as packed with new products as some of the other annual trade events, the Summer Fancy Food Show, presented by the Specialty Food Association, always serves up a variety of innovative new lines, formats and brand designs across a range of beverage categories. In this gallery, we review a handful of notable new items showcased during this year’s show, including a new energy tea, a pair of new releases from both Elmhurst and Brooklyn Crafted, two bag-in-box cold brew coffees and a concentrated kombucha syrup designed to work with Sodastream appliances.

Created by the team behind fresh food kiosk LeanBox, Boston-based Back Bay Roasters is attacking the coffee segment from multiple angles. For the RTD space, Back Bay markets a line of RTD high-pressure processed, never-heated cold brew coffee and tea in 12 oz. PET bottles, each with a suggested retail price of $2.99 - $3.29, in addition to a 101 oz. bag-in-box tap.

Elmhurst also shared a look at its first 8 oz. single-serve product: milked oats, which the brand plans to expand with new flavors such as chocolate in the future.

Plant-based milk producer Elmhurst expanded its hemp creamer line with new French Vanilla, Golden Milk and Hazelnut SKUs. The company is also preparing to launch a barista edition hemp milk in July.

Silverback Draft Tea (Three Mountains)

Silverback Draft Tea, a carbonated tea available in two SKUs, now features a new brand design. The brand has also shifted production to North Carolina, and also reverted back to its original formulation which contains 8 grams of raw cane sugar and 80 mg of caffeine per 12 oz. can. The cans are expected to enter 161 Fresh Market locations by mid-July.

GUS (Grown Up Soda)

For its first canned product, GUS is launching a line of reduced sugar (6 grams, plus stevia and monk fruit) ginger ales in three flavors: Original Dry, Peach and Raspberry. Each 12 oz. can contains 30 calories and will cost around $2.25 at retail.

New York-based cold brew maker Wandering Bear showcased two new flavor additions to its line of 72 oz. and 96 oz. aseptic bag-in-box taps: hazelnut and vanilla. The 72 oz. size is currently in trial at Fresh Market, available for a suggested retail price of $19.99.

Brooklyn Crafted shared a taste of its new five-SKU line of still herbal teas in 10 oz. glass bottles, which launched in January exclusively in New York City. The Asian-inspired flavors are powered by ingredients like prunella and Hawthorn berry, the latter of which supports digestive health.

After introducing a calamansi juice SKU last year, Brooklyn Crafted has expanded the product into a full line of “Calamansi Ades” in five flavors: Original, Ginger, Pomegranate, Mango and Lite (10 calories).

Joe Tea is moving into the energy space with the launch of a new caffeine boosted (160 mg) lemonade/iced tea in 16 oz. cans.

Lifeway’s plant-based kefir line Plantiful is now shipping to stores with a redesigned label in 24 oz. (SRP $5.99) and 8 oz. ($2.50) bottles, as well as a kid’s pouch. The company also announced its intention to launch a CBD-infused product through the sub-brand once the ingredient is approved by the FDA.

Blood Orange Elderflower is the newest addition for Mingle Sparkling Mocktails, a line of non-alcoholic carbonated drinks made with organic ingredients.

Natalie’s Orchid Island Juice shared a new addition to its line of adaptogen-infused cold pressed juices: Aura, which contains blood orange, ashwagandha, and strawberry.

O.Vine

First introduced as a “wine grape infused water” available in “red” or “white” flavors at last year’s Summer Fancy Food Show, O.Vine now features a revamped label that positions it as a “non-alcoholic wine essence water” in Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon SKUs.

Soda Press Co., which is part owned PepsiCo’s table-top home carbonation machine brand Sodastream, introduced an organic concentrated kombucha syrup that works with the appliance. Each 500 ml (16.9 oz) bottle can produce 12 servings of kombucha in two varieties: Original and Cola Nut & Keffir Lime.
