BlueTriton Brands Names Sabra Dipping Chief Joey Bergstein as CEO

BlueTriton Brands has named Joey Bergstein as its next CEO, effective November 28. Bergstein assumes the role from interim CEO Dean Metropoulos.

Bergstein comes to the bottled water portfolio company from The Sabra Dipping Company, where he served as president and CEO since 2021. He has also previously served as CEO of household and personal care products brand Seventh Generation and held roles at Diageo, Molson and Procter & Gamble.

“I have spent my career helping build great businesses—and helping those businesses make a meaningful difference in the world. I’m honored to bring my experience to bear at BlueTriton, where we are working to build a better water company and be a force for good,” Bergstein said in a press release. “I am excited for the next chapter of BlueTriton and look forward to building on our foundation and positioning it for long-term growth and success.”

BlueTriton Brands was founded in 2021 after private equity firm One Rock Capital Partners and family-owned investment firm Metropoulos & Co. acquired the Nestlé Waters North America (NWNA) business for $4.3 billion. Its portfolio includes bottled water brands such as Arrowhead, Deer Park, Ice Mountain, Ozarka, Poland Spring and Zephyrhills, as well as the Nestlé Pure Life and Nestlé Splash brands.

The company is the largest U.S. bottled water manufacturer by revenue. According to NielsenIQ, dollar sales of BlueTriton products were up 8.5% to $4.2 billion in the 52-week period ending October 21, 2023. In that time, volume sales fell -4.4% while average pricing increased 13.5%.

Volume sales have improved in recent months however. In the two-week period, volume grew 11.7% while dollar sales were up 11.2%.

In 2021, former Johnson & Johnson executive Jorge Mesquita was named as BlueTriton’s CEO. Mesquita left the company in 2022. Kheri Holland Tillman was appointed as CMO of the company last year.

“With more than 30 years of experience building and leading iconic consumer goods brands focused on sustainability, governance, and corporate culture, Joey embodies what it means to be a purpose-driven CEO,” said interim CEO Dean Metropoulos, who also serves as chairman of BlueTriton’s Board of Directors. “His ability to help companies achieve commercial success while making a meaningful difference in the world is perfectly aligned with BlueTriton’s leadership priorities and principles.”
