Bored Cow Takes Precision Fermentation Mainstream With Launch in 2000 Albertsons Stores

NEW YORK, N.Y.-- Bored Cow, the leader in animal-free dairy, is announcing its expansion into 2,000 Albertsons stores nationwide. This marks the first time that a dairy product made via precision fermentation is available at retail in all 50 states — a significant milestone for food and climate tech.

The 4-packs of 11 oz Chocolate milk and “Original” milk can be found in the shelf-stable section of well-known banners including Albertsons, Safeway, Vons, Jewel-Osco, Shaw’s, ACME, and others with a suggested retail price of $6.99-$8.99. The expansion significantly increases Bored Cow's distribution, making sustainable dairy more accessible to individuals and families across the US and cementing Bored Cow’s position as the leader in the space.

Kinder, Cleaner, Greener Dairy

Bored Cow is revolutionizing the dairy industry by utilizing milk ingredients that are ‘brewed’ instead of extracted from cows. Specifically, the company uses whey protein from fermentation as its base. Dairy without animals sounds impossible, but it’s actually simple. Microflora are taught to convert plant sugar into milk protein in large steel tanks, similar to what you’d find in a microbrewery. 

From there, Bored Cow adds plant fat, cane sugar, and sustainable ingredients like upcycled citrus fiber. The result looks, feels, tastes, and acts just like the real thing — without animal cruelty, and with a fraction of the environmental footprint.

To back up its climate credentials, Bored Cow conducted a third party, ISO-aligned life cycle assessment (LCA) to compare the impact of its “Original” milk to conventional and organic dairy milk from ‘farm to factory.’ The result? Bored Cow requires up to 96% less land, uses up to 67% less water, and emits up to 44% fewer greenhouse gas emissions. Bored Cow’s new 4-packs of 11 oz Chocolate and “Original” Milk are crafted to meet the demands of modern lifestyles. Each shelf stable carton boasts 10g of complete protein, and is an excellent source of calcium, vitamin D, and vitamin B12. They are lunchbox friendly, perfect for snacking, and great after a workout too.

Bored Cow has garnered national attention with its playful name, iconic brand identity, and whimsical characters featured on-pack. 

In March 2023, the company released Bored Cow “Original,” its flagship product, alongside its Chocolate, Vanilla, and Strawberry flavors. Less than a month later, the brand launched into national retail with Sprouts Farmers Market. Since then, the company’s retail footprint has grown 900%.
