New York specialty coffee company highlights full-circle retail relationship spanning nearly two decades while continuing regional growth across premium independent grocery.

NEW YORK, NY — May 17, 2026 — Oval Coffee Roasters, the New York City-based specialty coffee company focused on approachable light and light-to-medium roast coffees, announced continued expansion throughout DeCicco & Sons Markets locations across Westchester and Putnam Counties, bringing its Whole Bean and Pour Over Single Serve coffee formats to one of the Northeast’s most respected independent grocery operators.

For Oval Coffee Roasters, the expansion represents far more than additional retail distribution. For Co-Founder Andrew Itzkowitz, the placement reflects a full-circle retail relationship with the DeCicco family and organization that spans nearly two decades across multiple generations of consumer packaged goods categories.

Nearly two decades ago, Itzkowitz was working alongside his parents, Sid Itzkowitz, Master Baker, and Cindy Itzkowitz of Cinderella Sweets, helping launch the company’s gluten-free cakes and cookies division. After reaching out to DeCicco & Sons Markets during the early growth stages of the gluten-free category, Joe DeCicco Jr. approved the products onto shelves at a time when gluten-free remained far from mainstream retail.

“What stood out even back then was DeCicco & Sons’ willingness to evolve ahead of the market,” said Andrew Itzkowitz, Co-Founder of Oval Coffee Roasters. “They already had dedicated gluten-free freezer doors years before many retailers fully understood where consumer demand was heading.”

Over the years, Itzkowitz continued working alongside the DeCicco & Sons organization across multiple categories and brands, including Bonne Maman preserves through Andros Foods North America, Yogi Tea, refrigerated plant-based innovation including MyForest Foods’ MyBacon, and now Oval Coffee Roasters.

“What has always impressed me about DeCicco & Sons is the level of care behind the customer experience,” said Itzkowitz. “There’s a real attention to quality, presentation, hospitality, and discovery throughout the stores. Launching Oval Coffee Roasters here represents alignment with a retailer that genuinely values thoughtful merchandising while continuing to support emerging and local New York brands.”

Founded in 1973 in the Bronx by John DeCicco Sr., DeCicco & Sons has grown into one of the Northeast’s most respected independent grocery operators, now led by John Jr., Chris, and Joe Jr. DeCicco across locations throughout Westchester and Putnam Counties.

Oval Coffee Roasters offers both Whole Bean Coffee and its signature Pour Over Single Serve format — a machine-free pour-over coffee filter designed to brew directly over a mug using only hot water.

Designed for convenience without sacrificing specialty quality, the format has resonated with consumers seeking premium coffee for travel, hotels, offices, gifting, hospitality environments, camping, and modern on-the-go routines.

Oval Coffee Roasters currently offers three signature blends centered around distinct sourcing and flavor philosophies:

  • The Natural — A naturally processed, sun-dried coffee where the bean ferments within the fruit during drying, producing expressive fruit-forward flavor characteristics.
  • Bowling Green — A Women-Grown coffee sourced from women-led farms supporting financial independence and long-term community development.
  • Riverside — A Half Caff blend combining 50% caffeinated coffee with 50% sugarcane process decaf for a balanced, approachable cup suitable for afternoon or evening coffee drinking.

Over the coming months, Oval Coffee Roasters Co-Founders Christopher Alspach and Andrew Itzkowitz will be conducting in-store demos throughout DeCicco & Sons Markets locations, helping customers explore light and light-to-medium roast specialty coffees that many may be experiencing for the first time.

“One of the most rewarding parts of these demos is seeing customers who are more familiar with traditional dark roast profiles try a light roast or light-to-medium roast coffee for the first time,” said Christopher Alspach, Co-Founder and Director of Coffee at Oval Coffee Roasters. “You can often see their entire perception of coffee expand within a single sip and conversation. That accessibility is extremely important to us.”

To the Oval Coffee Roasters team, placement inside DeCicco & Sons Markets represents alignment with a retailer known not only for premium assortment and merchandising, but also for operational excellence, hospitality, and long-term support of emerging and local brands.

“And after all these years, hearing Joe say, ‘Of course — you’re local, you deserve a chance,’ honestly meant a lot,” added Itzkowitz. “Retail is still about relationships, consistency, trust, and showing up year after year.”
