Review: Pineapple & Sage

Posted: Nov 30, 2015 at 3:14 PM (Last Updated: Jan 12, 2016 at 12:21 PM)
As far as Zpirit's current flavor lineup goes (as of January 2016), this is the brand's best tasting offering. Like its other varieties, this product has fruit chunks -- pineapple in this case -- at the bottom of the bottle. While the sage, which is infused into the water, doesn’t really add anything to the flavor, the pineapple flavor is extremely enjoyable and accurate tasting. That being said, the lack of sage flavor isn’t an issue for us. And unlike some of the other varieties where the sweetness doesn’t really complement the fruit, it definitely does in this one. In fact, it works so well that you don’t even taste the stevia, but you do get the benefits as the product has only 30 calories and 5g of sugar per 10 oz. bottle. Ultimately, we feel as though this Zpirit product should serve as the model for future offerings. Packaging, however, is still very much in need of help. From a purely aesthetic perspective, the brand feels uninspired, with a clear background and plain looking type treatment. Punching this up -- and also rethinking the name of the brand -- would definitely help out. As it stands right now, this product simply doesn’t stand out or look good enough to have a good shelf presence. Overall, a really interesting concept with nice flavor, but it’s still quite rough around the edges.
