Vermeil Wines Collaborates with NFL Alumni on ‘Legendary’ Red Wine

MOUNT LAUREL, N.J. — NFL Alumni (NFLA) announced recently that it is partnering with Vermeil Wines to create ‘Legendary,’ a Napa Valley Red Wine Blend. A portion of the wine proceeds will be designated to retired player programs.

“I’ve been sharing wine with NFL players ever since I came into the league in 1969, and to now have the opportunity to continue sharing my own Vermeil Wines with fellow alums is a real honor,” said Vermeil Wines Vintner and Former NFL Coach, Dick Vermeil.

Beginning in 1999, Vermeil Wines made one Cabernet Sauvignon and has since grown to 11 single-vineyard wines in the portfolio guided by world-renowned Winemaker, Thomas Rivers Brown.

The ‘Legendary’ wine is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Petite Sirah, and Zinfandel. Fruit is sourced from the Frediani Vineyards – some of the oldest most sought-after vines in Calistoga where Vermeil was born and raised.

“Partnering with Vermeil Wines was a unique opportunity we couldn’t pass up,” said Elvis Gooden, CEO NFLA. “Supporting a member’s product and having proceeds from the sale of that product channeled back into programs aimed at helping the membership is a tremendous win-win.”

About Vermeil Wines

Our project began with one signature bottling, the Jean Louis Vermeil Cabernet Sauvignon, when Coach and winemaker Paul Smith (founder of On The Edge Winery) partnered in 1999. The name of the wine continues under what is now Vermeil Wines and is a dedication to Coach’s paternal great-grandfather, Jean Louis Vermeil, who brought the family name to San Francisco and to Coach’s father, Jean Louis Vermeil II, who instilled in Coach a love of wine, hard work, and dedication to your passion. This project is also a tribute to Garibaldi Iaccheri who introduced the Vermeils to Calistoga and the Napa Valley as well as to Coach’s grandfather, Al Vermeil, who showed Coach that wine could be a way a life. Today we proudly make 11 different wines that are some of the best examples of their varietals.
