BIONADE

BIONADE

Manufacturer's Brand Overview [Edit]

A new class of its own. BIONADE is totally different from lemonades and soft drinks, which are all made by mixing water with other "ingredients". BIONADE on the contrary, is produced purely and organically through the natural brewing and fermentation of water and malt. BIONADE's new and innovative brewing process converts the malt sugar into gluconic acid instead of alcohol. This is a natural ingredient of bee honey and is considered to be very healthy. Because gluconic acid strengthens the taste of natural sugar, BIONADE needs only a fraction of the sugar found in a normal soft drink. This remarkable discovery allows BIONADE to achieve the perfect amount of sweetness, without using any corn syrup. Furthermore, natural minerals in the form of magnesium and calcium, as well as natural essences from fruit and herbs are added along with carbonation.

Elderberry

Product Type:Carbonated Soft Drink: Regular; Container: 12 oz glass
BevNET Review: Elderberry is the sweetest and most tart tasting of the Bionade line. If it weren't for the artifacts of the fermentation process, we'd guess that this product would come out tasting like cranberry. Instead, it has a bit of a berry flavor with a cherry finish, which is actually quite good. However, the bright red color might give the perception of a sweeter (and higher calorie) product. Like the other flavors, the packaging is attractive and well executed, with a super premium feeling throughout. Overall, a great tasting product with a nice looking bottle.Reviewed on: 10/16/2007

Ginger & Orange

Product Type:Carbonated Soft Drink: Regular; Container: 12 oz glass
BevNET Review: Ginger & Orange is the flavor that will likely be most appealing to the American palate. It features a light fruit flavor with a noticeable hint of tartness to the finish. The orange flavor is noticeable, but very mellow, while we do not taste any ginger flavor whatsoever. Fermentation gives the product some slightly bitter notes, but it doesn't really impact the overall enjoyment of the product. The biggest question is whether or not Bionade can make its benefits known to the US market who is unfamiliar with their unique fermentation process. Given the refreshing flavor and its striking long neck bottle, we think they will be able to give it a decent effort, but the questionable state of the US CSD market might limit this to being a niche product. Only time will tell.Reviewed on: 10/16/2007

Herbs

Product Type:Carbonated Soft Drink: Regular; Container: 12 oz glass
BevNET Review: The Herbs flavor of Bionade gets the prize for having the most intriguing name. It doesn't whet the appetite, but it certainly stands out from the bunch. In terms of what's actually inside the bottle, there's a noticeable floral aroma and taste to the product, which works well for a product named "Herbs." The flavor does a good job of covering up any of the trace notes left behind by fermentation, which is also a plus. Overall, a technically sound flavor -- but it doesn't whet the appetite the same way the other flavors do.Reviewed on: 10/16/2007

Lychee

Product Type:Carbonated Soft Drink: Regular; Container: 12 oz glass
BevNET Review: The Lychee flavor of Bionade is quite enjoyable, with a sweet dose of fruit flavor that has been given a moderate amount of carbonation. While using Lychee gives the product an exotic sounding name, the flavor is more or less on par with a bitter lemon lime soda. More interesting is the slightly fermented taste, which gives the product a tinge of bitterness -- a sign of quality as far as we are concerned. Overall, it's an extremely enjoyable flavor. The packaging is clean and well designed, with a noticeable touch of European design. The only thing that seems to be missing is something that sells you on the benefits of the unique process & formulation used in the drink. Making it a bit more obvious for the American consumer (who is presumably unfamiliar with the brand) would certainly help this product along.Reviewed on: 10/16/2007
