BevNET Review: Compared with the original, the flavor of ZUN Lite is surprisingly good, with the same flavor notes (watermelon and berry) as the original. The big difference with this variety comes with the sweeteners, which include blue agave, sucralose and acesulfame potassium. The resulting beverage has only 20 calories, but has only a mild sweetener aftertaste and a level of sweetness that's almost on par with sugar. To that end, we found this product's flavor to be very enjoyable. If there's anything that we don't like, it's the added blue coloring, which gives the product a slightly offputting and very unnatural look (we think that's part of the reason why almost no blue colored drinks are successful). Functionally, ZUN Lite has some kick to it, with 110mg of caffeine per serving. It also contains the same "brain boosting" ingredients as the original, including coenzyme Q10 and choline. As far as the packaging goes, we're glad to see that they've stuck with the rocket ship bottle — it's definitely one of the coolest and most unique packages out there on the market today. The label is, for the most part, a good adaptation of the original, with the only exceptions being the placement of the "low-calorie" and "Lite" tags as well as the lack of anything describing the flavor. BevNET Review: With a bottle that’s been designed to look like a rocket ship, ZUN is unquestionably one of the more eye catching looking drinks that we’ve seen in a while. However, we wonder if they’ve gone too far to the point where the product will be misconstrued as a novelty drink. Billed as a “brain boosting energy” drink, the product features a “top secret” flavor which tastes like a watermelon base with a touch of berry to it. It’s sugar sweetened, which, paired with the mellow fruit flavor, helps make it very drinkable and light in your mouth. As a result, ZUN is one of the better tasting energy drinks that we’ve had in a while. Functionality comes in the form of caffeine, gingko, choline, tuarine, and coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10), which has been added to help one’s memory. Of course, we can’t evaluate this secondary function, but we did feel an energy boost from the caffeine that’s in this drink (100mg per bottle). Overall, this is a very unique looking and tasting product that scores high on almost every technical aspect. Reviewed on: 4/22/2009
