Odwalla(R) Introduces Super-Premium Organic Juices

Odwalla(R) (pronounced “Oh-dwa-la”) grows its vision of Soil to Soul(R) by adding a trio line of certified organic juices to its growing family of nourishment. Made only from carefully sourced, delicious, 100% organically grown fruits and vegetables, Odwalla’s line of organic nourishment features pure squeezed Odwalla Organic Orange Juice, pure pressed Odwalla Organic Carrot Juice and pure pressed Odwalla Organic Apple Juice, each flash pasteurized to ensure product safety while maintaining great taste, nutrition and product integrity.

Odwalla Organics can be found where other Odwalla beverages are sold — in refrigerated sections of supermarkets, natural products stores, health spas and gyms, and select food-service outlets nationally. Odwalla Organic Orange Juice, Odwalla Organic Apple Juice and Odwalla Organic Carrot Juice are available in 450-milliliter (15.2-fluid-ounce), recyclable, HDPE plastic bottles. Suggested retail price is $2.39-$2.49.

The Pure Taste of Organic

Odwalla’s stringent standards for premium taste and quality come bursting through in its new organic line. “Odwalla offers great-tasting organic juices. We source the best-quality 100%-organic varietals based on seasonal availability for Odwalla’s organic juices,” says Barr Hogen, Odwalla’s creative chef and director of new product development. “Currently, we are using 100%-organic Valencia oranges for our Odwalla Organic Orange Juice and 100%-organic Gala apples for Odwalla Organic Apple Juice. What’s more,” Barr notes, “we’re famous for our very popular Odwalla Carrot Juice, and now we’re pleased to be able to offer Odwalla Organic Carrot Juice, featuring the refreshing creamy flavor of our carefully sourced, 100%-organic sweet carrots.”

The Environmental Benefits of Organic

For over twenty years, Odwalla has sourced different organic ingredients whenever possible for its great-tasting, nourishing products. Expanding its broad selection of products with a dedicated line of organic juices reflects Odwalla’s heritage of healthful products and support for sustainable farming.

“Offering super-premium, quality organic juices underscores our continued commitment to natural-resources conservation and environmental stewardship,” Odwalla President Shawn Sugarman explains. “Odwalla’s guiding principle, Soil to Soul, embodies the notion that individual actions related to food, from production to consumption, are all interrelated. This philosophy blends perfectly with the principles of organic farming. Odwalla’s decision to offer certified organic juices was a logical strategic move for the company, and one in keeping with our values.”

Organic certification means these juices meet the strict national rules governing organic production, which prohibit the use of synthetic pesticides, fertilizers or other potentially toxic chemicals. These juices are also free of genetically modified organisms (GMOs), which are strictly prohibited in organic production. The National Organic Standards Board (NOSB) defines organic agriculture as “… an ecological production management system that promotes and enhances biodiversity, biological cycles and soil biological activity. It is based on minimal use of off-farm inputs and on management practices that restore, maintain and enhance ecological harmony.”

Growing Consumer Demand for Organic Products

A hot trend in consumer packaged goods, organic foods and beverages have experienced double-digit growth over each of the past ten years. And one of the fastest growing categories is organic beverages other than milk, growing by 26% in 2001, according to Natural Foods Merchandiser. The new, federal National Organic Program (NOP) requires that, by October 21, 2002, all products labeled organic must meet the national standards set forth by the United States Department of Agriculture. “We welcome heightened consumer awareness of organic products, as well as increased consumer trust in organic labeling that we anticipate will follow the implementation of the National Organic Program this fall,” says Sugarman. “With the growing demand for organic products, the time has come for Odwalla to provide consumers coast-to- coast access to great-tasting, quality organic juices from a brand they already trust.”

Like all Odwalla juices, the new Odwalla Organics are flash pasteurized and distributed on refrigerated trucks to retail outlets through the care and handling of hundreds of route sales representatives.
