Organic certification means these juices meet the strict national rules governing organic production, which prohibit the use of synthetic pesticides, fertilizers or other potentially toxic chemicals. These juices are also free of genetically modified organisms (GMOs), which are strictly prohibited in organic production. The National Organic Standards Board (NOSB) defines organic agriculture as “… an ecological production management system that promotes and enhances biodiversity, biological cycles and soil biological activity. It is based on minimal use of off-farm inputs and on management practices that restore, maintain and enhance ecological harmony.”
Growing Consumer Demand for Organic Products
A hot trend in consumer packaged goods, organic foods and beverages have experienced double-digit growth over each of the past ten years. And one of the fastest growing categories is organic beverages other than milk, growing by 26% in 2001, according to Natural Foods Merchandiser.
