@@img1 Chandler, Ariz. – August 8, 2007 – WheyUP, the Original Protein Drink with Energy, launched its nationwide campaign with a distribution deal with retail giant GNC. WheyUP, the first product of its kind that combines a protein drink with an energy drink, will be sold at GNC’s top 200 corporate stores beginning in September 2007.
"I’m very excited to be launching Wheyup nationally with GNC," said WheyUP’s inventor and founder, Arizona-based entrepreneur Erik Rothchild. "When you mention health and fitness in regards to retailers, GNC is the first store that comes to mind. This deal with GNC really validates the great feedback we’ve received from consumers."
WheyUP represents a breakthrough in the sports drink market. It combines 20 grams of whey protein with an energy formula in a sugar-free, non-carbonated beverage. WheyUP will be sold in ready-to-drink 16-ounce plastic bottles. Previously, the sports beverage was sold in 16-ounce cans in the Phoenix test market.
WheyUP recently introduced a new flavor, tropical citrus, which complements the company’s popular wild berry flavor currently on the market. Both flavors will make their debut in the new plastic bottles at GNC. Two more flavors will debut in Q4 2007.
Rothchild developed WheyUP through his own personal nutritional supplementation.
"Prior to exercising at the gym, I blended a sugar-free energy drink with strawberries and whey protein powder, so that I would get the recommended amount of protein and energy in one drink," said Rothchild. "I started to ask around the gym if other people would be interested in a protein drink with energy and the overwhelming answer was ‘yes’ … and thus the idea for WheyUP was born."
The fitness industry recommends consuming a minimum of 20g of whey protein prior to working out. Many individuals are also seeking a boost of energy – whether it’s coffee, an energy drink or caffeine pills – to intensify their workout. With WheyUP, getting energized and adding healthy protein to a diet has never been easier.
WheyUP is targeted toward health-conscience individuals and fitness enthusiasts. It is ideal for fat-loss programs, exercise programs, weight-training programs, athletic activities, and as part of a healthy, active lifestyle.
"With 20 grams of protein, zero fat and only 1 gram of carbs, WheyUP is the perfect drink for people on carb-conscience diets," Rothchild said. "It’s a great way to add protein to your diet and energy to your day."
