LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Rooibee Red Tea Company, once just sold at farmers markets in Louisville, has experienced substantial growth this year. In March of 2014, the company expanded its offerings with a new line just for kids, Rooibee Roo. Since landing in stores in May, sales for Rooibee Roo have increased by 20 percent each month. Shoppers across the country who want a great tasting, healthy beverage now have more opportunities than ever to pick up a bottle of Rooibee Red Tea and new Rooibee Roo with the addition of new markets, stores and online availability. Most recently, both products were made available in Kroger’s largest division including the cities of Houston and Dallas, Texas, and additional stores in Kentucky, Indiana and Tennessee. Rooibee Roo became available at Fresh & Easy neighborhood markets in California, Arizona and Nevada; all Earth Fare stores in the South and Midwest; and online at RooibeeRedTea.com and Amazon.com. Rooibee Red Tea expanded their presence in Whole Foods stores in Pennsylvania, Maryland and Washington D.C. at the start of 2014. A new partnership with Publix landed it on store shelves in states like Florida, Georgia and Alabama. In California, Rooibee Red Tea is available at all Bristol Farms and Nugget Markets.
“We are thrilled to not only expand our offerings, but to expand our availability through these quality retailers and fill the overwhelming need of families across the U.S. for a healthier beverage,” said CEO Heather Howell. “Partnering with outlets like Kroger, not only the largest supplier of our family of brands including Rooibee Roo, but our hometown grocery, helps make our products more accessible and convenient. It will allow us to see even bigger growth in 2015.”
In addition to the products’ expanded availability, Rooibee Red Tea Company has received recognition on a local and national level. An Orange Fork Taste of Innovation award was presented to the company on Oct. 1. The Orange Fork Award recognizes individuals, organizations, and communities that embody the spirit of promoting a local food system. Martha Stewart also named both brands an American Made award finalist. The award promotes the spirit of innovation by recognizing local makers and their homegrown products. Public voting for the audience choice winner is live through Oct. 13 online at marthastewart.com/americanmade and winners will be announced on Oct. 17.
About Rooibee Red Tea Company
Rooibee Red Tea is the only bottled USDA organic red tea made from the South African rooibos bush. It is a legume that grows only on the western cape of South Africa. It is high in unique antioxidants, naturally caffeine-free and low in tannins leaving no bitter aftertaste. The company was founded in 2009 in Louisville, Kentucky to provide a healthy drink the whole family can enjoy. First sold in area farmers markets, the parent line comes in five flavors including watermelon mint, cranberry pomegranate, peach, vanilla chia and unsweetened. They can be purchased in stores across the U.S. In 2014, the company headed by CEO Heather Howell, launched a new line for kids called Rooibee Roo offering three different flavors of mango, cherry and orange with the same great taste and benefits of its parent line.
