The Sugar Association
Dismayed with the guidelines was The Sugar Association; in particular with the recommendation that added sugars account for no more than 10 percent of daily calories. The crux of the association’s argument is that, in their opinion, there is not enough scientific evidence to support the percentage number. In a statement, they declared that the association believes “as with past examples of dietary guidance not based on strong scientific evidence, such as eggs, the “added sugars” guidance will eventually be reversed. The lack of scientific rigor in this process has and will continue to result in consumer apathy, distrust and confusion.”
