Drinks featuring sea-derived ingredients like algae, spirulina, and sea moss are gaining strong momentum, fueled by rising consumer interest in health, sustainability, and plant-based nutrition. These ingredients—spotted prominently at BevNet Live in December and ExpoWest in March—are valued for their high nutrient density, offering rich sources of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and plant-based protein.
Sea moss, in particular, is known for supporting digestion and detox, while all three align with the growing demand for vegan, functional beverages. They’re increasingly appearing in smoothies, juices, wellness shots, functional waters, and ready-to-drink blends, often paired with ginger, turmeric, or fruit juices to boost both flavor and health appeal. Their eco-friendly profile—especially algae and sea moss, which require minimal resources to grow—adds to their appeal. Reflecting this shift, Whole Foods Market named “plant-based aquatic ingredients” a key emerging trend in its Top 10 Food Trends for 2025.
