Shirley Temple is the latest nationwide addition to the Olipop’s functional soda lineup, offering a better-for-you interpretation of the classic mocktail. The 12-ounce can contains 40 calories, 4 grams of sugar, and just 1 gram of added sugar, supported by Olipop’s proprietary Oli-Smart blend of prebiotic fiber. Featuring tart cherry juice concentrate, citrus juices and natural flavors, the product aims to deliver nostalgia while staying firmly rooted in the brand’s health-forward positioning.
Things that stand out:
- Flavor closely captures the essence of a Shirley Temple, with bright cherry notes and subtle citrus providing balance without excessive sweetness. The lighter body creates a crisp, refreshing experience that feels contemporary rather than indulgent.
- Olipop’s nutrition profile continues to differentiate it from traditional sodas and classic mocktail inspirations
- The packaging is playful and visually engaging, with cherry and umbrella graphics that feel cohesive with the broader Olipop line
- We like that Olipop and some of the other better-for-you soda brands are adding Shirley Temple at the same time, which should certainly help with consumer awareness.
Things to consider:
- Consumers expecting the syrupy richness of a traditional Shirley Temple may find the mouthfeel too light. The flavor can read more like a refined cherry soda than a direct one-to-one recreation
- As more brands lean into the Shirley Temple trend, long-term differentiation could be a challenge, but we think it’s a smart, timely move regardless.
Rating:
Beekeeper Coffee produces a line of canned cold brew coffee lattes made with organic honey. Its latest offering is a chili extract-added Hot Honey flavor, using reduced fat milk and organic cane sugar for additional sweetness. The beverage packs 125 mg of caffeine, 90 calories, 5 grams of protein and 11 grams of sugar into an 8 oz. can, with callouts for its use of “Pure Honey” and arabica coffee beans.
Things that stand out:
- Spicy coffee is a niche within the whole bean and ground coffee space, but a unique innovation for RTD that will help this product to stand out on the shelf as something wholly different.
- The flavor profile feels complete with flavors working in unison; the milk and honey combine for a thicker, almost syrupy latte experience.
- A clean ingredient panel which benefits its position as a light indulgent beverage.
Things to consider:
- The actual spice from chili extract is mild. That may be a positive for consumers who only want a hint of “hot,” but could disappoint those anticipating something hotter given the slogan “Bring the Heat, Fuel the Fire.”
- Packaging could do more to note the use of chili on the front of label. Consider making the Hot Honey flavor name larger.
