Blue Bottle Coffee Debuts Notes in Repose, a Limited-Edition Vinyl Celebrating Coffee, Jazz and the Art of Composition

Created in celebration of Blue Bottle’s Signature Blends, the brand’s first-ever compilation album features 10 contemporary jazz compositions from artists across North America and Asia.

OAKLAND, Calif.  – September 29, 2026 — Blue Bottle Coffee today announced the launch of Notes in Repose, its first-ever compilation album, created in celebration of the brand’s Signature Blends. The limited-edition vinyl brings together 10 contemporary jazz compositions from artists representing nine cities across Blue Bottle’s cafe markets in North America and Asia, including Ali Shaheed Muhammad, Makaya McCraven, Jeff Parker, Angel Bat Dawid and the Kyoto Jazz Sextet. Woven together with ambient recordings captured in Blue Bottle cafes, the album invites listeners to slow down, brew a cup of coffee and give the music their undivided attention.

Born from Blue Bottle’s ongoing exploration of flavor, its Signature Blends have become some of the brand’s most iconic coffees. For Blue Bottle, blending is an act of thoughtful composition: bringing distinct coffees from different origins together to create balance, harmony and complexity. Giant Steps, a bold and chocolatey Signature Blend named after John Coltrane’s landmark 1960 composition, embodies this connection between coffee and music. Together, Giant Steps and Notes in Repose celebrate the artistic spirit shared by coffee blending and musical composition.

There’s something visceral about putting on a record—the sound, the physicality, the artwork all become part of how you experience the music.”

Jazz has been part of Blue Bottle’s story from the beginning. Founder James Freeman was a working clarinetist before opening the first Blue Bottle cafe, and his appreciation for the music helped shape the company’s creative approach to coffee. That connection deepened through the influence of Japanese jazz kissas, where coffee and music come together in an environment designed for focused listening. Inspired by that tradition, Notes in Repose takes its name from the sense of pause the album is intended to create—an invitation to slow down, settle in and let both the coffee and the music unfold.

Only 1,500 copies of Notes in Repose will be produced and will be available beginning October 6 at bluebottlecoffee.com while supplies last. Giant Steps, part of Blue Bottle's Signature Blend collection, is available year-round online and in Blue Bottle cafes.
