Covers Products: Roots Beer, Blueberry Basil

Having been acquired by PepsiCo in late 2016, Kevita is continuing to forge ahead with new line extensions. Their latest products are these two additions to their USDA Organic certified Master Brew Kombucha lineup: Roots Beer and Blueberry Basil.

As one can probably tell from the name, Roots Beer is their take on a classic root beer. To achieve this, they’ve added ingredients such as root beer spice, ginger, sarsaparilla, cinnamon and vanilla to their kombucha base. The result is something that’s surprisingly enjoyable and refreshing. Similar to their other Master Brew offerings, this product uses a blend of stevia and sugar (7g per 8 oz.) and it has only the slightest sweetener aftertaste to it. For a brand that’s clearly going after the mainstream, having a soda like flavor that’s still true to the brand seems like a nice opportunity for Kevita.

Blueberry Basil, on the other hand, feels very much like it was cut from the same cloth as some of Kevita’s other flavors. Blueberry and basil are front and center, while the slightly fermented base of kombucha complement it quite nicely. Also, added maple extract gives the product a slight maple note that is a welcome addition. In the end, this is a really nice summertime formulation -- it’s sweet, refreshing, and quite enjoyable.

For the packaging, these flavors look just like the rest of the Master Brew Kombucha lineup. They feature a 15.2 oz. amber glass bottle and an easy to read label that has some nice visual pop to it. It seems like it’s in a good spot where it’s both appealing to the eye and does a great job of presenting itself as polished and credible.

Overall, Kevita has done a really nice job with its two latest offerings.
