Desolas Mezcal Closes Friends And Family Investment Round With Miami Heat Star Duncan Robinson

Fresh off of winning big at the 2023 Bartender Spirits Awards, the ultimate seal of approval in the global spirits on-premise industry, where Desolas Mezcal earned a Gold Medal and was named “Mezcal of the Year” and “Mezcal Producer of the Year,” the female-founded spirit is announcing it has closed a friends and family round of investment which includes Miami Heat sharpshooter Duncan Robinson.

Desolas is delicately handcrafted from the Salmiana Agave in San Luis Potosi, Mexico, creating a distinct mezcal and flavor profile with low smoke and botanical and fresh aroma. The premium spirit boasts a smooth and balanced flavor with notes of citrus, black pepper and an elegant finish of vanilla.

“We are extremely proud of Desolas’ continued trajectory, distribution and evolution,” said GG Mirvis, Founder and CEO of Desolas Mezcal. “This latest investment round will allow us to continue to grow, scale and market. Adding great partners like Duncan Robinson is a testament to the quality and potential of the brand.”

Robinson has spent five years as a star shooter for the Miami Heat in the NBA, playing in two NBA Finals, while becoming the fastest player ever in the NBA to hit 800 3-pointers. On August 6, 2021, Robinson signed a five-year, $90 million deal to stay with the Heat, the largest contract in NBA history for an undrafted player.

“I’m incredibly excited to be involved with Desolas,” said Duncan Robinson. “I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to be aligned with such a high-quality product and team. GG and the team have worked tirelessly to curate a mezcal that stands apart from its peers. If you haven’t had the chance, make sure you check it out!”

Featured in Forbes, People, InTouch, OK!, VinePair and more, Desolas has quickly become a spirits favorite in part due to its unique, non-smoky flavor profile. Desolas is distributed in New York, Florida, Georgia, Texas and California and continues to expand into new markets.

While most mezcal is made from espadin that grows in Oaxaca, Mexico, Desolas is made from 100 percent Salmiana Agave from San Luis Potosi. Known as the “Green Giant” due to its enormous size, Salmiana Agave is a low-yielding agave that can take up to 25 years to reach full maturity before harvesting and requires careful handling. The arid air and chalky soil of the region also contribute to the mezcal’s distinctive flavor characteristics, exposing herbal, grassy, and botanical notes.
