Review: Project Fresh

Based in New Haven, Conn., Project Fresh is a new line of raw, cold-pressed juices that are marketed as "raw organic craft cleanses." The drinks, which quickly gained distribution throughout Whole Foods' North Atlantic region, come in five varieties. In our sampling of three of the flavors, it's clear that the company has created an excellent array of juice blends, with some pretty solid branding behind the line.

Review: Blossom Water

Blossom Water, which describes itself as an “all natural essence water,” is a line of fruit- and flower-enhanced drinks. Sweetened with agave and erythritol, the waters are sophisticated, but, very drinkable. However, in the long run, the packaging will need some work.

Review: Plan Tea – New Varieties

Brooklyn-based Plan Tea has launched two new varieties -- Masala Chai and Green Tea with Mango -- to its line of organic teas. Well-formulated and incorporating a couple new packaging changes, the products are excellent additions to the brand.

Review: Watersensations – Energy

Watersensations is a new line of liquid enhancers that come packaged in the company's innovative, patent pending “LiquiPack.” In our review of the brand's "energy" variety, we think the company has done a great job in creating a pleasant flavor profile and a product with added functionality (energy) that will likely attract more mainstream appeal. On the branding front, however, watersensations could use a little work.

Review: Sabila Aloe Drinks

Aloe drinks remain a category on an upward trend, and Sabila, which markets a line of aloe beverages, has created a solid brand with some excellent formulations and blends. That being said, Sabila, like other competing products, would benefit from a shake-up in its packaging -- most of these aloe drinks look a lot alike, no?

Review: POWERCOCO – New Packaging, Flavors

In the latest iteration of the brand, Powercoco has revamped its label and shuffled its flavor varieties, adding a new Fruit Punch product in the process. We like the updates to the beverage line but think that the brand still has a bit more room to grow in terms of its look and positioning.

Review: Project Juice

How does a raw juice brand stand out among the dozens of new entries hitting the market? Being completely raw (no high pressure processing nor pasteurization) is certainly one way to do it. Project Juice, which markets a line of organic juice blends is following that path, and doing it well, with a variety of unique flavors and well-executed branding.

Review: Chameleon Cold Brew – New Varieties

Last month, Chameleon Cold-Brew added three new varieties to its line of cold-brewed coffee concentrate products. In our sampling of the company’s East African, Indonesian and mocha flavors, we feel…

Review: Prometheus Springs

In the time since we first sampled Prometheus Springs, the line has expanded, the packaging has changed, and new management is in place. The change in packaging, which involves a move to a smaller 10 oz. bottle and a rebranding effort, is the primary reason that we’re taking a fresh look at the brand.

Review: Nu Aquos

Designed as a multi-function protein/hydration beverage, Nu Aquos is a product packed with electrolytes, vitamins and minerals, fiber, and 12 grams of protein. The drink is promoted as one that will help consumers "rehydrate, restore and recover," and, from our perspective, the company has done a pretty good job with formulation. As for the branding and packaging, well, Nu Aquos needs a bit of work.

Review: Sneaky Pete’s

Earlier this year, Sneaky Pete’s overhauled the packaging for its line of oat-enhanced drinks, and we're big fans of what the company has changed. Gone is the "Sneaky Pete" character and in its place are new fruit images, a cleaner background, and a more direct callout to the oat component in the beverages. We think the revised branding does a much better job of communicating what the line is all about.

Review: ZICO Tropical

Launched as an exclusive at Trader Joe’s, ZICO Tropical is the company’s second coconut water and fruit juice blend. The product, which is made with pineapple, guava, orange, passionfruit and…

Review: Sparkling ICE Lemonade

When the fastest growing non-alcoholic beverage brand in the U.S. meets one of the hottest beverage categories in recent years, you get (drum roll, please): Sparkling ICE Lemonade. The new…

Review: iCON Energy

iCON Energy Drink basically offers the same functional benefits as top selling competitors, but without the branding of the big players, which, in turn, likely leaves this product relegated to the dangerous strategy of competing on price against massive companies that have economies of scale (memo to small beverage companies: this never works).
