Amy & Brian Coconut Juice

Amy & Brian Coconut Juice

Manufacturer's Brand Overview [Edit]

Amy and Brian All Natural Coconut Juice is the "water" from young coconuts. It is pure, clear, and one of the most concentrated sources of electrolytes known. A refreshing, slightly sweet, isotonic beverage, Amy & Brian Coconut Juice has more potassium than a banana and several times more than most sports drinks. When consumed before or after exercise it helps to combat dehydration and fatigue. In Asian countries, where coconuts are common, coconut juice is considered one of the healthiest drinks available. It absorbs quickly into the body because it is very similiar to our body's own chemistry.

Coconut Juice

Product Type:Juice: Coconut Water and Juice; Container: 17.5 oz Can
BevNET Review: Amy & Brian’s take on coconut water is “coconut juice”, which is a Thailand sourced product that’s made from the juice (aka water) of young coconuts. From a flavor perspective, Amy & Brian’s is sweeter and more salty than almost anything that we’ve sampled in this category. To that end, the product feels heavier in the mouth, which might impact how one uses this product (it's too heavy to consume during physical activity, in our opinion). On the outside, the product feels like it is going for a different type of consumer than other coconut water products. Specifically, it feels like something that is better suited for the juice category, starting with their use of the word “juice” in the product name. It also lacks the "active" feel that's found in many of the other brands that are on the market – and to us, that seems like a bigger opportunity than the juice aisle. Overall, the product definitely feels like a high quality one, both in taste and appearance, but its positioning is potentially the limiting factor.Reviewed on: 10/27/2010

Coconut Juice with Lime

Product Type:Juice: Coconut Water and Juice; Container: 17.5 oz Can
BevNET Review: Of the three Amy & Brian coconut water flavors, this one is hands down the best. It starts with the flavor, which, despite having a higher calorie count than the other two flavors, actually feels lighter in your mouth. Plus, the lime flavor offers a nice complement to the coconut water, cutting both the sweetness and the saltiness of the product. And, unlike other products that are using lime with coconut water, Amy & Brian's uses lime juice, which results in a more natural lime flavor. However, their packaging isn't as nice looking as the competition, with the 17.5 oz. ribbed steel can feeling chunky and messy looking. It also feels like something that's trying to compete with the juice category, which does not seem like the right place for this product. Giving the product a more "sporty" brand might help — as would going into something other than a can. Overall, the best of the bunch, but if they could make the packaging better, they might have a hit.Reviewed on: 10/27/2010

Coconut Juice with Pulp

Product Type:Juice: Coconut Water and Juice; Container: 17.5 oz Can
BevNET Review: Before coconut water became the sweetheart of the beverage industry, most of the coconut water products that were being imported into the US were very much like this one. That is, they included some of the pulp of the coconut (it has a gelatinous mouthfeel), which, thanks to their having equal density to the liquid, float throughout the product. Now, if one thing has been proven over time, it's that American consumers don't really like things floating in their ready to drink beverages, so for most people in this country, this product's consistency will not be appealing to them. That being said, this product is nevertheless likely to have a very niche appeal, with a more ethnic skew than Amy & Brian’s flagship coconut juice product. The product's packaging doesn't really help things either, with a ribbed steel can which, when paired with the design that is painted on the can, has a rather pedestrian vibe. We think that it will be hard for a product like this to compete with the more chic look of products like O.N.E., Zico, or Vita Coco. Overall, it's good, but there are currently better products on the market than this one.Reviewed on: 10/27/2010
