Chandler, Ariz. – August 6, 2007 – To coincide with its national launch in September, WheyUP, the Original Protein Drink with Energy, will be sold in ready-to-drink 16-ounce plastic bottles. Previously, the sports beverage was sold in 16-ounce cans in the Phoenix market. WheyUP is currently sold at Hi-Health stores, with plans for additional national retail distribution in coming weeks.
WheyUP combines 20 grams of whey protein with an energy formula in a sugar-free, non-carbonated beverage. WheyUP also introduced a new flavor, tropical citrus, which complements the company’s popular wild berry flavor currently on the market. Both flavors will make their debut in the new plastic bottles in September. Two more flavors will debut in 2007.
The company decided to make the switch to plastic bottles after market research and consumer feedback. According to WheyUP inventor and company founder Erik Rothchild, the new plastic bottles offer several advantages
"First, consumers can now sip WheyUP while working out at the gym and re-cap the plastic bottle so it will not spill," Rothchild said. "Second, consumers can now see that WheyUP has a light consistency like a sports drink, as opposed to a creamy shake. Third, consumers do not have to drink the entire bottle. Now they can drink half if they so choose, re-seal it and put it back into the refrigerator for later consumption."
